HoI4 Dev Diary - Achievements

Hello, and welcome back to another Dev Diary from the snow-stricken city of Stockholm. Today we will be talking about that quintessential feature completionists like myself simply crave whenever a new DLC is released: achievements. :D

This batch consists of 21 new achievements, most of which relate to the new countries and mechanics, though one is dedicated to the 2018 PDXCon HoI4 Challenge (30 Minutes of Hel), and another was a brilliant suggestion by a viewer of Daniel and myself's playthrough of the new British focus tree (Britzkrieg).

In addition to adding these new ones, I've made some adjustments to the more 'grindy' achievements that were added to Waking the Tiger. Having myself completed every single achievement in the game, none annoyed me even nearly as much as Battlecry and Awake and Angry. To make these less of a 'conquer the whole world three times over' pain to get, I've added exclusions for the European enclaves to the requirements of these achievements. It now will no longer be necessary to reclaim Guangzhouwan, Macau, and Hong Kong to get them :)

Now, on to the new achievements:

That was it for today (though not for this week ;) )! We hope you'll be enjoying hunting for them. Let us know which you're most excited about, and don't forget to watch Daniel leak more stuff in today's stream at 4PM CET!

Let's not refight the Civil War folks.

Now I need Georgia on my mind and Team America. However my first run is going to be A New Home of the Revolution. I'm really excited for Mexico!

Cheers for the DD Bratyn, some cool and interesting achievements there, and a good number of naval ones :D. Looking forward to the release .

Nothing Wrong with our Bloody Ships
As the United Kingdom, have at least 9 battlecruisers.

Here's Invincible going up at Jutland, that was a rough day for Britsh battlecruisers (possibly the only time I'll be able to sneak a Jutland pic into a HoI4 forum post and be on-topic o_O).

Obviously that there is going to be another thread this week where they will finally announce Victoria 3.

Hahaha, love it :D.

...I don't like the fact that the CSA hasn't been a focal point in MtG and hasn't been designed as a playable revolter with its own focus tree / events and artwork. It's just there for the player to fight as part of a civil war, and Southern secession (the CSA's historical raison d'être) and fascism have been (very) wrongly conflated in-game.

The original CSA government would surely have been democratic or, at the extreme most, authoritarian by the standards of HOI. However, its legacy might well take the same principles on a different approach, in the interest of avoiding the pitfalls which led to the Southern defeat in the historical civil war. Even apart from politics, the transformations of technology & the evolution of military doctrine would likely place more power in the hands of the president, already historically a more powerful force at the national level than his US counterpart because he wielded a line-item veto. I think that, especially when defined in opposition to the USA in the era of New Deal democracy, the CSA would be at least a democratic authoritarianism, if not a lite brand of fascism due to the influence of the inevitably associated racial politics & personality cults like that of Huey Long.

All that said, it's a delicate enough balance that it really should have its own focus tree. But I'm sure there'll be a slew of mods to fill that gap, not least of all R56.

I am ridiculously excited for this to release right now.Since we're seeing the achievements, I'm gonna take a guess and say within a month. Two at the very most.

Liking the new focus tree's that we'll get in this DLC. As the allies you could never really switch and have a lot of flavour in your game, I presume that we'll be getting a few new mechanics for factions and colonial powers like the Netherlands. We just need the Swedish takeover of the world now in one focus.

Who knows?
It's bad enough that you have Edward VIII deciding to assert himself and rule without Parliament, but his brother doing this is about as likely as Japan going communist. ;)

Swedes aren't all that religious as far as I know but one achievement involves Hel and another a narrow path. Reminds me of Matthew 7:13.
Hel is the norse godess of the underworld and in this case refers to a peninsula in Poland.

Yup. Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War member myself. Great, great, great Grandpa made that a reality.
My family lost two men on the union side, still my first play-through will be the South. Water under the bridge.
I will do the achievements:
- Georgia On My Mind
-To Arms in Dixie!
-Arsenal of Democracy
-Team America
-Pride and Extreme Prejudice
-Do You Mined?

in one go. Can't wait.

So I have done the math.
If you want to do as many achievements in one go as possible:
Fascist US -6 (Do You Mined?, Pride and Extreme Prejudice, Arsenal of Democracy, To Arms in Dixie!, Georgia On My Mind, Team America)
Monarchist UK -4 (Britzkrieg, Nothing Wrong with our Bloody Ships, William Wallis, Last for a Thousand Years)
Communist Mexico -2 (The New Home of the Revolution, Mi Casa es tu Casa)
Allied Poland - 2 (Assuming Direct Control, 30 Minutes of Hel)
Democratic US - maybe 2 not sure if you can trigger the civil war while being democratic. (Underpaid, Undersexed, and Under Eisenhower, History Repeated Itself?)

For the other achievements you have to play the countries once.

What's the third Georgia, btw?

What's the third Georgia, btw?
Most likely the island of South Georgia next to the Falklands.

I don't think you'll be able to do American achievements while playing as the CSA, unless they make it so that both the tags can get those achievements.

I am pretty sure you are the US, thats how the civil wars work in the game. Actually the other side isn't the US tag wise. But you stay the US.
