Stellaris: Console Edition Development Diary #48 - "Aquatics Gameplay and More"

Hello Stellaris: Console Edition Community!

The Aquatics Species Pack will release on August 25th! That’s right, just one week from now!

We’ve had a great time showing off all the new toys that the Devs have prepared for our Console Community, and we all hope that you all enjoy this new species pack and free update as much as we enjoyed bringing it to you. We’re going to talk today about the new gameplay features coming in the Aquatics Species Pack, but first we have some exciting events coming up for the Console Edition Community that we hope you’ll join us for:

We’re currently running a contest where 3 PlayStation and 3 Xbox players will win a copy of the Aquatics Species Pack! All we want is a picture of your Xbox or PlayStation, running Stellaris: Console Edition and you could win! Simply send us a picture of your gaming setup in this forum thread (not in the replies to the Dev Diary!), on Twitter with the hashtag #stellarisinyourlivingroom, or in #inyourlivingroom on the Stellaris Discord! Full terms and conditions here.

We’ll be revealing the winners on Monday’s Tantalus Dev Q&A Stream (details below!).

Some of you might have noticed that we were collecting Community questions on social media, discord or the Xbox Club earlier this week. Well, next Monday (August 22nd), we will have a special stream with Adam, one of our Tantalus developers working on Stellaris: Console Edition! Be sure to join us at 4 PM CEST on twitch.tv/paradoxinteractive!

But that’s not all! Then, on Thursday August 25th, Community Manager MordredViking and I will be holding a special release day stream on twitch.tv/paradoxinteractive at 1:30 PM CEST Come watch as Mordred plays Aquatics Species Pack on Stellaris: Console Edition live for the first time!

Keep an eye on our social media feeds as well, there may be more community streams and other content coming out! But enough about this, lets talk about what you really came here for, the new gameplay features coming in the Aquatics Species Pack!

Origins

The Aquatics Species Pack includes two new Origins:

The Ocean Paradise Origin starts you on a size 30 Ocean world with the Aquatic Species Trait and nestled in the heart of a nebula.

You get bonus Happiness, Pop Growth Speed and output on this planet, as well as rich food deposits and a Crystal Reef that gives +2 Crystal mines. Your other guaranteed planets become frozen worlds.

In the Here Be Dragons Origin, your civilization has shared its home system with a formidable space dragon. This dragon is not under your control, but will protect your homeworld if hostile ships enter your home system, as long as you do not displease it.

There’s a lot more to this Origin, but I won’t spoil anything for you here!

Ascension Perk

The Aquatics Species Pack also grants access to the Hydrocentric Ascension Perk. Hydrocentric reduces the cost to terraform to Ocean worlds by 25%. Hydrocentic also allows the construction of Ice Mining Stations that allow harvesting ice from Frozen planets and asteroids in the system, this ice can then used by the Expand Planetary Sea decision on Ocean worlds up to 3 times per planet.

Additionally, species with the Aquatic trait get 50% greater benefits for living on ocean worlds and their penalties for living on non-Wet worlds are also amplified.

If that wasn’t enough, Hydrocentric also unlocks the Deluge Colossus weapon (requires Apocalypse, and taking the Colossus Project Ascension Perk), which floods habitable planets, killing all non-Aquatic pops on the planet and turning it into an Ocean world.

Civics

Choosing the Anglers Civic causes Agriculture Districts on your Ocean worlds to become uncapped (meaning they behave the same as Industrial Districts, in that you can build as many as you like, up to the planet size, regardless of Planetary Features).

Additionally, on Wet worlds farmers are replaced by Anglers and Pearl divers. Anglers produce 8 food, and 2 trade value, and Pearl Divers produce 3 Consumer Goods and 2 trade value. Anglers also adds the Aquatics Species Trait.

Species Trait

The Aquatics Species Trait is available to all portrait types and authorities besides Machines. It grants +20% Ocean world habitability, -10% housing and +10% Food, Energy and Mineral production on Ocean worlds. However, on non-Wet worlds Housing usage is increased and Habitability is decreased.

That’s it for today folks!

Does the 3.2 update include the changes to increase the Gaia Origin (life seeded?) Home planet to 30 districts?

Edit: just found it in the 3.2 notes :
  • Life-Seeded now start with a 30 space planet
