Stellaris Dev Diary #133 - The Caravaneers

Hello everyone!

Today we’re back for this week’s installment of the Stellaris Dev Diary!

Now for the standard reminder that we’re not yet ready to reveal when MegaCorp will be released, and that screenshots may contain placeholder art, interfaces and non-final numbers. That said, you’re now free to begin the honored tradition of ignoring that and start arguing about any numbers posted or asking for a release date.

Anyway, let’s begin! Today we will be covering The Caravaneers, another cool feature in MegaCorp.

The Basics
The Caravaneers are space-based traders who send out fleets across the galaxy to offers you great deals! The best deals! There are three different Caravaneer fleets who set out from their coalition base in Chor’s Compass.

The Fleets
Like mentioned earlier, there are three new fleets of traders roving the galaxy, known as Racket Industrial Enterprise, the Numistic Order, and the Vengralian Trium.

They travel across the galaxy, and when they show up in your space they will offer you lucrative deals. Each fleet has their own set of specialized deals and may ask for different things in return for what they are offering.

The Caravaneer Coalition Base
For those who seek to enjoy some quality pastime, a visit to the caravaneer base is surely worth a visit! The caravaneers have some great deals on offer – only Energy Credits are accepted for being exchanged for the exciting CaravanCoinz! (Your primitive £, $, € won't be accepted here!)

CaravanCoinz allows you partake in some excellent games of chance, or to buy sealed boxes of loot. Who knows, maybe you will be lucky enough to find the most glorious and precious thing known in the galaxy – The Galatron.

Either way, a visit to the caravansary coalition base is not something you’ll regret!

Wow, so many great deals to look forwards to!

That is it for this week, folks! Next week we will be back with another exciting topic - namely the Slave Market (and some additional minor stuff)!

Also don't forget to tune into Twitch at 15:00 CET for the third session of the Stellaris Dev Clash.

I get the feeling that the release date is close... between 2 weeks and a month I would say :))
If it was this close they'd definitely would have announced it.

With luck the release date for the release date might be a month away.

They ignore borders, and while destroying a fleet gives you some resources, there's little benefit to it beyond denying their services to others.

Will they know to avoid systems containing hostile Leviathans, space life, the khan etc? Will they respawn at all? It would be a shame if this feature kept getting destroyed by AI.

There are a lot of people here who seem to be lacking a bit of fun. Also space casino seems like a pretty good scifi trope.

I think on one run I'll rp an empire that gets addicted to gambling and pumps all its spare cash into reliquaries to hit that big pay off.

...Is this...

Are those Reliquiaries basically a maybe-actually-helpful parody of Loot boxes?
I love it.

They are.

And they are Wiz's fullfillment of a old promise in a dev stream a couple months back. Someone on Twitch jokingly asked whether Stellaris was going to add Lootboxes (afaik it was around the whole Star Wars fiasco?). Wiz's response was something along the lines of "No. Definitely no. Or actually, we may just add them as a joke." (loose memory protocol)

Wiz always delivers. Looking forward to the Space Unicorns.

Will these caravans be better at surviving than the nomads, who I almost never actually meet in my games?

Also, if it relies on them physically entering your borders, how will this work in larger galaxies? I suspect that even if they don't die to space monsters, I'll almost never see them unless they spawn near my home system, as I usually play on the largest map size.

- The text for the slot machine is hilarious XD
- I quite like that there are 3 different fleet of caravaneers offering you different types of deals
- Kinda sad to see the slave market moved to a different DDs (probably due to a longer than expected development time)
- The Numistic Order is totally going to be the "gospel of prosperity" thing, I'm calling it!

I find the concept of casino in space pretty stupid...

I think I will have to blow this caravanner system up every game. How strong are its defenses ?

It's like an easter egg dude, you dont have to speak to them if you dont want to.
Also it's not that stupid, once getting to space becomes somewhat affordable, It's pretty much guaranteed one of the first private orbital stations will be a hotel.
If you dont believe that you clearly dont follow things like Space X.

5 years and 120 playthroughs later . . .

One of these days, I'm gunna get that Galatron achievement, one of these days . . . *clicks button* . . . OH, THAT COULD HAVE BEEN IT. Just a few more, just a few more . . . BLOODY UNBIDDEN STOP TAKING MY ENERGY WORLDS, I NEED THE GALATRON ACHIEVEMENT!!!

In-game loot boxes - this is just... Too perfect. An excellent way for Paradox to thumb their noses at the greedy RL gaming mega-corps and their stream of low quality microtransactions!

Sometimes, you just need a bit of humor and blow off some steam at the slots to keep your mind off the rising dread as extra-galactic monstrosities start devouring the galaxy, a few empires gear up to cleanse the universe of everyone that isn't them, and someone just decided Slaanesh would be a great best friend.

Yep. One more Reliquary sounds wonderful right about now.

Ohh.... be interesting if there was a negative modifier to pop happiness should your empire go spending all their credits on gambling. Populist anti-bourgeoisie uprising!
