Stellaris Dev Diary #185: Announcing Necroids

Hello everyone!

Today we bring you some exciting news about our upcoming Species Pack! We’re happy to announce that our next species pack will be themed around death and should allow you to live death to the fullest! Check out the trailer below:

Necroids will feature:
  • 15+1 new portraits (the +1 being machine)
  • 1 new Ship Set
  • 1 new City Set
  • 1 new Room background
  • 1 new Origin
  • 3 new Civics
  • 1 new pre-scripted Empire
  • 1 new Advisor Voice
We wanted to add ships that had a more sinister or evil appearance, and I’m very happy to say we’ve made something really great. We’ll go into more detail about the ships, and give you a peek into the art process, in a future dev diary.

True to the theme, we wanted the portraits to revolve around death, but not look outright undead or decaying. We never intended the Necroids to be specifically undead, but rather themed around death. Similar to the ships, we will be doing a dev diary in the future to give you a peek into the art process, and also reveal all the new portraits. Stay tuned!

Regarding the other features, we have already shown you some of them, such as the Death Cult Civic and the Memorialist Civic. The remaining features will be revealed over the next couple of weeks, and maybe you'll even get to learn about Jeff. But for now, let’s pass the Mishar Cabal into our memories.

---

General Donnten threw her bloodied axe next to Ostiir’s severed head. The others in the Leadership Council would remember this the next time they considered interrupting her in the Mishar Althing.

She pushed past the acolytes that were coming to deal with the corpse. They were annoyed - the rites were always harder if the head was removed - but they would just have to stitch it back together.

Smiling to herself, she left the arena. At least Ostiir would be an obedient little soldier now.

Yes, the crises are fun ideas and it would be nice to get a new one. Just because they don't work now doesn't mean it's impossible for them to work.

I want my third million dollars. Yeah I mean I got 500$ in my bank account, but first 2 millions are fun ideas. Just because I don't have them now doesn't mean it's impossible for me to get them.

People who were whining should have watched the Twitch live stream. They explained a few things that might have shut them up.
But i did, and they explained exactly nothing about what plagues the game, in fact when some people on the chat(me included) asked about game fixes, ALL were ignored. If their job was to reassure the community well they didnt made a good job, which mirrors what the have been doing here in this forum: absolutely nothing

Why are so many seemingly upset? Where you all expecting a full scale expansion, or are you more worried about this being seemingly untested/unbalanced like Lithoids? I will say I wish we actually got to see the portraits in this DD, as opposed to the "dwarf" art, but the idea seems interesting.

;-

P.S. Hey.... can we Badge Zombies finally get a Federations Forum badge when this drops, as well as its own? (And can you guys poke the EU team for one Emperor and to fix the one for the base game...)

Stellaris Necrons (I'm refusing to call it by its copyright evading name), this is all starting to get ridiculous. Undead zombie armies, really?
They mention they are not specifically undead. As well that Necrons are not actually "undead" they are consciousnesses placed inside synthetic bodies.

Reamimated armies can be explained about as easily as Psionics and the Shroud can. For instance the latest Joker War series for DC where he uses little nanobots to reanimate people.

Read the replies, we are upset not for the DLC (wich looks cool honestly and I would buy it) but for the current state of the game.
They gonna fix the AI or I (I hope we) will not buy more DLCs

I think it's because there's no mention of fixes to the current game. If they are going to address the AI, fix the sectors and the economy, as a bonus get some features that are currently not used by the AI to be usable, such as Ecus, fleet stances (currently all set to selective - even FP types), then I'd be more excited about this DLC.

Read the room, game is not in a good state, we don't hear anything of use for months on end and then you just drop a species pack?

Who is advising you? Because fire that guy.

It's fitting that it's called necroids, as this is the last squeeze of milk from the necrotic udder of the stellaris cash cow.

Why so many dislikes?
It's not that this DLC came out of the blue, it was already announced.
My bold hypothesis is that the dislikers would've liked any informations about a patch more than the second confirmation of DLC number 12.

Every expansion and flavour pack in the history of every modern Paradox game comes with a patch, are we expecting this to be the one that breaks the pattern?
To be fair, we know absolutely nothing about the technical details from the next patch.
The first thing is that I've learned that if Paradox doesn't talk about or present something then it's usually not done. That's the conclusion when Paradox markets even the tiniest bit of content / work in order to ... well ... market Stellaris. So atm, it doesn't look good in regards to the next patch. The second thing is that it's questionable whether the next thing is a patch ( with completions, fixes, optimisations and balancing ) or an update ( with new content that could screw up something else + patch-stuff ). Pro-Patch-Argument: DLC number 12 is just a species-pack. Pro-Update-Argument: Every DLC is usually accompanied with an update. The third thing is its extent, but in reference to the first thing, it doesn't look good atm and ...

hopefully since this is a portriat pack the devs will have time to work on fixing the game while the art team is arting
Yeah, hope, but it's not really Paradox tradition to use the opportunity of a species-pack for patch-stuff. I wasn't able to find something about the "Plantoids"-DLC, but the patch-stuff-extent from "Humanoids" and "Lithoids" was pretty slim:
In fact, don't be surprised if they're already working on DLC number 13 since christmas 2020 is in 3 months.

Wew, hadn't been here in a while. Had no idea the community had reached Smash Bros-tier when it comes to constantly whining about everything. We even got wojacks here, good stuff.

To be honest aesthetic wise the ships don't seem like something I'd use, the traits however seem like good fun.

I can hear them. Like cats scratching at the door, they want to be let in. They want to be inside. I can smell them like they can smell me. If not for the adrenaline in my system and haven't time I would be sick. I probably am already dead but I am too wired to know it. I am scared I don't want to die. I am afraid to calm down.

I take it this year's Halloween theme is UNDEAD! I approve.

Do you mean people legitimately complain about brain dead and lobotomized AI? Yeah we are whining, but who defends paradox is simping.
