Hello everyone and welcome to another Stellaris development diary. Today's dev diary is going to be about a few different features coming in the Utopia expansion and associated Banks update: Native Indoctrination, Unrest and Faction Interactions.

Native Indoctrination (Paid Feature)
@Wiz

Will buildings that reduce ethic divergence have more impact now on population already present with different ethics? At the current version of Stellaris it seems to me that the only pops really getting adjusted by it are additional ones created by growth. Of course I might be wrong, but so-far it seemed to me that I was unable to 'alter" already existing pops, at least not noticeable. Or will be able to perform the "indoctrination" on the own population as well? Spending influence points not just to suppress certain pops with ethics not matching the government but altering them over time to better fit the whole?

It doesn't show up on the development diary list, but it also didn't make it to Steam news. Someone was asleep at the wheel. Probably a case of a bunch of people were like, "I thought you got that!"

So, @martinanward on twitter has released a few more sneak peeks:

That's what Syncretic Evolution means, apparently, free slave race.

Doesn't look like Hive Minds get any ethics, somehow.

Hm...You know now that I think about it and this is a question for Wiz:

@Wiz: if we have a multispecies empire, will the faction leaders be different species or will they only be our founding species? From what I saw on the stream and the pictures you've shown us, it seems to be the latter than the former...so far that is.

In the current game whenever I've incorporated another species I always, always, always get an autonomy faction headed by a member of that species.

What would be the point of hive mind if other ethics are allowed?

Xenophobic hive mind, Xenophile hive mind, Militaristic hive mind etc. Just cause hive mind doesn't work the same as other ethics doesn't mean it can't be mixed. maybe none of your pops are militaristic in the new ethics system, but maybe you could enjoy access to certain civics and bonuses based on the overall ethic of your hive.

Looks like they've decided to do this purely through hive-specific civics, however.

I think that's also the iconography on the Commonwealth's flag.
The Commonwealth of Man and Terran Federation both use some kinda eagle variant, but while the COM eagle is very angular, made of stripey components with a diamond-spade tail, the Terran Federation eagle is boxier and whole, with wings that look like gear-teeth and a three-pronged cross tail. Citizen Service was also a key feature of the Terran Federation, both in the heinlein novel and the '97 film. SERVICE GUARANTEES CITIZENSHIP! and all that.

While I'm willing to bet that the Commonwealth is based on the Federation, that citizen service icon is definitely based waaaaaaaaay more on the iconography from the Verhoeven film than it is the COM Aquilla.

Completely unimportant to the discussion, but a definite nod nonetheless.

I have no idea how you took that out of the dev diary. You can suppress ethics you don't like, and keep unrest down with armies, buildings, etc.

Another reason to have armies everywhere - population control!
*Insert evil laugh lasting for several hours*
