Stellaris Dev Diary #87: A Glimpse of the Future

Hello everyone and welcome to another Stellaris development diary! This is going to be a short one, as it's really just about letting you guys know that we'll be taking a break from feature development diaries for the next few weeks, so everyone gets a chance to focus on and enjoy Synthetic Dawn and the 1.8 update that just came out.

There will still be 'filler' dev diaries about whatever we feel like talking about that week, but they will *not* be about new features or development priorities. The team, of course, will not be idle, and indeed have already started working on the next big thing... but more on that another time. Feature dev diaries will resume as normal on October 26th.

However, as I don't want to leave you *completely* hanging, I'm going to share this screenshot taken from our internal development build, with absolutely no context or explanation. Enjoy!

I bet on some Federation related mechanic ( building superstation as Capital city of Federation - think about Babylon 5 or Citadel ) and whole next expansion focused on Federation mechanics. Idea of federations is great but way how its implemented in game now is really far from perfect...
 
Maybe it's
  1. the new headquarters for the contincency?
  2. a new minor fraction (Mercenaries?) like the traders etc.
  3. a new Megastructure, e.g. military headquarters
  4. a planet destroyer?

Mercenaries would actually be pretty cool, either the ability to hire/buy ships from them or to rent fleets (or hell, have them attack your neighbors while you remain 'innocent') it's something I'd certainly love to see.

More interaction, A larger shipclass and fewer ships per battle would be nice to see in a future patch. A war-overhaul, so to speak.

If your looking for fewer ships per battle, one solution (sort of) is Star Trek New Horizons mod. Ship use counts go up (corvettes rise up from 1 to 4 for Ship Capacity as an example)
 
can it be? can we play as replicators??=??? IMAGINE THAT EMEGERD
 
Looks interesting. A station perhaps? Or horror of the universe or late game enemy?

Either way, I'm liking Synthetic Dawn, it would be nice though to have new ship style to go along with expansions that add new races (it's been mentioned that they take quite a bit of resources to do I know, but still).
 
Oh, for goodness' sake, it's an upside-down swarm of ants.
 
I wonder how bad wiz wants to tell us what this structure is?
I hope that it's something with trade because why not, and I hope eventually they add artillery that can fire across the galaxy.
