Stellaris Dev Diary #87: A Glimpse of the Future

Hello everyone and welcome to another Stellaris development diary! This is going to be a short one, as it's really just about letting you guys know that we'll be taking a break from feature development diaries for the next few weeks, so everyone gets a chance to focus on and enjoy Synthetic Dawn and the 1.8 update that just came out.

There will still be 'filler' dev diaries about whatever we feel like talking about that week, but they will *not* be about new features or development priorities. The team, of course, will not be idle, and indeed have already started working on the next big thing... but more on that another time. Feature dev diaries will resume as normal on October 26th.

However, as I don't want to leave you *completely* hanging, I'm going to share this screenshot taken from our internal development build, with absolutely no context or explanation. Enjoy!

It could easily be a revamped spaceport, like Wiz discussed a while back. One that is centralised between various planets and can produce multiple ships at a time.
Then it would presumably use the spaceport model, too .. and as another poster pointed out, the military stations located around the frontier outpost appear to be manually placed.

This is not a bug. The war in heaven isn't a crisis. Unless you happen to be right in the middle of it, you can just go on with your business building more of yourself.

I was LITERALLY right in the middle of it XD the Enigmatic Observers and the Military Isolationists were really close to eachother and they happened to be sandwiching part of my territory, with no other empire neighboring them XD

So, judging by the picture, the minimum distance between military stations gets removed? o_O

I know some/many people who will be delighted, but personally, I'd rather reduce the amount of stations and make them more powerful/meaningful. A single fortress per system that, depending on its size and components, would be able to hold the line in a major battle and aggro any fleet passing the system border is, to me, a lot more fun than the current "gauntlets" that drag a fleet from one pitiful outpost to another.

I really hope I'm just mis-interpreting the image, though it strongly suggests the above.

So basically, you want 10 different defense station sizes and 1 station in each system? I don't think you've thought this through...

I'm concerned, what about the main issues of warfare? Doomstacks? The fact that the warfare is more or less 3 simple steps in every case? Where are the choices I need to make to keep it interesting and hopefully dynamic.

I'm worried that they have fallen into the trap of just tacking on new stuff and calling it fresh without solving any of the excruciating problems already there.

I've had lot of success in chaotic warfare. But it means I must overwhelm my opponent so that I can split stacks. If I am not overwhelming, splitting my stacks usually ends in uber disaster and prolongs the war by 10 years :( This is a tough nut to crack

pleaz add more ship tipes, like dedicated carriers, battlecruisers, frigates, support ships...it would be awesome and good to make diversified fleets and things like that.

i think that's 1 station with a buildable cloud of defence platforms. so I think it's kinda what you want as it's basically 1 entity as all the smaller ones are tied to the bigger one.
