Hello everyone and welcome to another Stellaris development diary. Today is the third week of post-Synthetic Dawn 'filler' dev diaries, as mentioned in Dev Diary 88. Regular dev diaries return on October 26th.

As we don't have anything in particular to talk about this week, I'm just going to give you another brief update on 1.8 post-launch support: We released the 1.8.2 update yesterday, with all the fixes from the 1.8.1 beta as well as some additional fixes and tweaks.

There has been a couple of script issues reported in 1.8.2 related to Devouring Swarms, Exterminators and Purifiers (missing tooltips and opinion modifiers) that we are going to look at and likely publish a fix for, but other than that we feel like we have now addressed all important issues reported in 1.8 and 1.8.1 and so will be wrapping up 1.8 post-launch support if no other critical issues are found in the live build.

As before, I'm going to sign off this dev diary with a screenshot, this one taken on the galaxy map in the internal development build, where everything clearly looks the same as it always has and there certainly aren't any significant changes being prototyped that I can't yet talk about. See you next week!

Hopefully it wont be as tedious as im imagining it.

If they use the same UI concept they use for adding systems to sectors, it will be fine.

If.

God bless you ! - That's how an empire and its borders should look like ! ...

And Yeah - It's probably the aproach to claim every single star-system via an outpost.

So you are going ahead with the claims system that was talked about ages ago. Interesting.

Nice changes to borders. I hope that you add more at a glance info to borders like I saw suggested in another thread. For example an indication it is closed, empire type, relation status. These could be achieved using pictographic symbols.

Looking forward to the mechanics of the new system!

Frontier outpost for every system!
Hopefully it wont be as tedious as im imagining it.

Even if we needed to manually add each system, I think it'd be a fantastic change. I can't pretend to know how it'd work exactly, but I can certainly imagine it'd help combat the blobbing/snowballing that tends to happen; enforcing smaller empires would have a lot of implications for gameplay and game design that I think could address and improve a lot of areas of the game.

(Also, if the stations shown in previous teasers are, as some people suggested, frontier outposts, its possible that frontier outposts will be becoming a "permanent" structure ala Orbital Habitats, meaning that demands to destroy/cede them will be much more streamlined and that you wont have to rebuild a ton of stations after every war.)

For modders that add portraits, they cannot be used for machine empires without clumsy workaround fixes just to be able to have pops grow as normal when they try to build pops. You literally lose all minerals, the pop 'dies' upon the end of the month you want to build, and somehow or another the pops are seeking Food to grow. Probably something to do with food upkeep vs. energy upkeep.

Did anyone mention AI fleets bombing primiteves to totally nuked terrain? They are doing it 365/365 days a year and it doesn't seem to be correct: they ignore nearly everything else. Realy, the Vehement are about to eat their capital and they don't care: they are busy nuking Stone Age civilization.
Also, it might be a problem of Russian localization, but still: no text after invading primitieves with Machine Empires. Could you check it, please?
