Second week and a second dev diary! We will continue for this week as well to discuss new patch features and changes.

I'll start with some more quality of life changes we've done with the right-click menu to make interactions with various entities in the game even more smooth. For starters we've finally removed the capital letters in the tooltip to hint about how to now interact with characters, but that's not really a big deal. We have also extended the menu to now include actions such as plot to kill in this menu to make life a little bit easier.

But we didn't end there because we also felt that you should be able to interact more with holdings and titles so we added it to them as well, including a decision to switch what you want as your capital holding. Obviously the bishopric of Uppsala should be the capital of Sweden now that the capital holding type doesn't matter for government anymore.

There's also a thing that has been very difficult to do in Crusader Kings 2 is to get a visual overview of your realm and its hierarchy which is why we have merged the Independent Realms mapmode and Direct Vassals mapmode into one superior mapmode which combine the both plus some more. Let's have a look at the Holy Roman Empire and his realm.

DD_3.jpg

To now see the breakdown of this realm you Ctrl+Left Click on a province on the map belonging to the Empire and it will break up in-front of you to show you what hides within. Showing you the various duchies and counts beneath the Emperor. Pretty standard to how the Direct Vassal mapmode works but you can isolate it to one realm at a time.

But let's say you want to look deeper into the hierarchy and break up the Kingdom of Bohemia to view what duchies and counties that it contains? You just click it again and this sub realm will also be broken apart to reveal the King's own direct vassals letting you examine your vassals vassals.

And like Doomdark did last week I'll finish up with some random snippets from our huge Changelog

- Several Lovers events now checks that ruler/spouse/lover isn't incapable/imprisoned
- Rügen, Öland and Djerba are no longer considered to be ocean terrain provinces.
- You'll no longer try to talk to your dead children when you have the family focus.
- It is now possible to gain the Crusader/Mujahid trait as a character of any religion participating in a Crusade/Jihad.
- To become a cardinal you have to be within the pope's diplomatic range
- Can no longer enforce plot to take vassal land if he is in revolt.
- Go tiger hunting no longer disappears after creating a custom Empire in India.
- Fixed get married ambition for homosexuals.
- Now we have visual indicator when settlement slots are being used by tribals
- Paranoid parents should no longer worry about potential plots against dead children.
- Lovers in prison can no longer get impregnated normally
- Anglo-Saxons are now also allowed to create the Kingdom of Saxony

Actually the game should allow Muslim females to get titles someway...

"Like some other Muslim princesses of the time, she was trained to lead armies and administer kingdoms if necessary.[1]"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Razia_Sultana

And because I'm not sure how good the source on wikipedia is another source:
https://books.google.de/books?id=-WRlAQAAQBAJ&pg=PA235&dq=Razia Sultana army&hl=de&sa=X&ei=s11fVfilMsuRsAHR6ICQCw&ved=0CCAQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=Razia Sultana army&f=false

Werent you just shown how foolish you are to cherry pick an absurdly UN-typical and singular exception on a wikipedia link and try and pass it off as somehow common enough that the CK2 game mechanics should be changed to accomodate... why are you doing it again with this even more ridiculous example?

Cherry picking? Okay... There are only around 3-5 female muslim rulers during this era... I can just cherry pick on this topic! And why is this exemple ridiculous? Could you explain?

Just because game allows something doesn't mean it's common. Because, come on! How often do you see Absolute Cognatic Norse Vikings in India? Unless you do it yourself, not that often I presume. Zoroastrians restoring Persian Empire? It wasn't common, remove it from the game!

Gloria Steinem is the source... you are suggesting CK devs change their game mechanics ... you really need to me to go on... ?

You know, the AI's incompetence in bringing up your heir could actually reflect the fact that typically a courtier would have their own agenda even in raising an heir. This would suggest that they are deliberating sabotaging the upbringing of their liege lord to weaken the crown...

And no we are not, we are on this topic defending a change which would enable female rulers to lead armies.

To be honest I think it should go further and allow any noble woman to lead an army, just restrict them from being able to get a military education, but that is unlikely, but that point is as far as we have gone.

AI usually puts even low martial rulers to lead armies. So, if you fight a woman you will most likely meet her in battle.

I imagine that will change with the whole commander minor title, as well as with the ability to prevent your leader using an army. We do not know what revisions these code extensions will bring.

You are now saying the AI's incompetence is actually some deliberate and devious Deep Blue...

I am not sure if I am being trolled by you and Thure, are you two a comedy duo? Or are you both actually that... no I cant take any more its just too hilarious thanks for the laughs.

What did I do...? You are the one who disblevie that Razi Sultana lead armies... Even after I postet another source for you... I just want to show that even Muslims had female army leaders.

Sorry that I don't say 'Women in the middle ages were just birth machines!' because it's wrong... Why do some people disbelieve in any source about female army leaders?

I was being humorous Grell, trying to lighten the mood. To be honest dealing with the AI is like teaching undergraduates, you can trust them to never do the right thing.

Hey Groogy will you announce the next DLC next dev diary?

The philosophical reply would be that no limits, or no rules, is the same as removing characteristics. If you can do anything with any religion in the game, they lose identity, and there's then little point to choosing one over the other. This is not very good game design.
I guess that's why they are implementing it in EU4 then...

About restricting military education for women. I like the idea. But, I'd say there should be exceptions.
A) There should be a specific type of fathers (rulers) who would actually go for martial for their Ronja daughters. They would be martially educated themselves and (not sure which traits? Proud?) freedom loving personalities. Hollywood type :)
B) Of course education should be possible to go wrong as usual. Say daughter educated by Midas Touched should still have probability to end up martial.

Today, 1 item was added to the Steam Depot, while 2 items were updated.
In total, there are 3 items dubbed "unknown app" that were updated today (some 4 hours ago)
It could be nothing.
It could also mean that we will hear the announcement soon.

(steam depot lurker)

On Groogy's request, I will be going through this thread and ensure anyone I consider to be sexist is infracted.

Consider yourselves warned.

That doesn't make it a good design choice. I absolutely think it is a poor decision for EU4 as well, but I don't play that game very much, so I don't really care.
