Second week and a second dev diary! We will continue for this week as well to discuss new patch features and changes.

I'll start with some more quality of life changes we've done with the right-click menu to make interactions with various entities in the game even more smooth. For starters we've finally removed the capital letters in the tooltip to hint about how to now interact with characters, but that's not really a big deal. We have also extended the menu to now include actions such as plot to kill in this menu to make life a little bit easier.

But we didn't end there because we also felt that you should be able to interact more with holdings and titles so we added it to them as well, including a decision to switch what you want as your capital holding. Obviously the bishopric of Uppsala should be the capital of Sweden now that the capital holding type doesn't matter for government anymore.

There's also a thing that has been very difficult to do in Crusader Kings 2 is to get a visual overview of your realm and its hierarchy which is why we have merged the Independent Realms mapmode and Direct Vassals mapmode into one superior mapmode which combine the both plus some more. Let's have a look at the Holy Roman Empire and his realm.

DD_3.jpg

To now see the breakdown of this realm you Ctrl+Left Click on a province on the map belonging to the Empire and it will break up in-front of you to show you what hides within. Showing you the various duchies and counts beneath the Emperor. Pretty standard to how the Direct Vassal mapmode works but you can isolate it to one realm at a time.

But let's say you want to look deeper into the hierarchy and break up the Kingdom of Bohemia to view what duchies and counties that it contains? You just click it again and this sub realm will also be broken apart to reveal the King's own direct vassals letting you examine your vassals vassals.

And like Doomdark did last week I'll finish up with some random snippets from our huge Changelog

- Several Lovers events now checks that ruler/spouse/lover isn't incapable/imprisoned
- Rügen, Öland and Djerba are no longer considered to be ocean terrain provinces.
- You'll no longer try to talk to your dead children when you have the family focus.
- It is now possible to gain the Crusader/Mujahid trait as a character of any religion participating in a Crusade/Jihad.
- To become a cardinal you have to be within the pope's diplomatic range
- Can no longer enforce plot to take vassal land if he is in revolt.
- Go tiger hunting no longer disappears after creating a custom Empire in India.
- Fixed get married ambition for homosexuals.
- Now we have visual indicator when settlement slots are being used by tribals
- Paranoid parents should no longer worry about potential plots against dead children.
- Lovers in prison can no longer get impregnated normally
- Anglo-Saxons are now also allowed to create the Kingdom of Saxony

I like the new changes and be able to play as a church is very nice. government type changes are nice too. keep up the good work you guys. I look forward to seeing all these changes.

You still can't play as a church. It was just an example of swapping holdings around in the province. The old penalties still apply.

Would it be possible to put plots in a sub-window like honorary titles? It would make things much easier for mods that add more types of plots.

As a side note, I just noticed that the first dev diary has been unstickied. Instead of stickying only the most recent dev diary, could an index thread with links to all the dev diaries be stickied, so it will be easy to access all of them instead of only the most recent one?

There is already an index, in the official wiki.

Well if a church DLC is ever gonna come, now is probably the time since you guys are changing a bunch of code around anyways, so unshackle the mongoles etc from the pope and let him declare the kingdom of god.

Great news!

Also I have question:

I saw that the create vassal icon active on the second screenie. Is that mean, as we get "government floating over the map", that we could made province full of vassals (barons, bishops and towns) with keeping the count title to ourselves?

The "Superior" new map mode will be a great help when playing as a vassal. Not only will I be able to see the lord I am under but also see inside those I target for war.

Thank you for the information packed into this DD. The "Prevent Yourself from Leading" toggle is a bonus not even mentioned in the DD but shown in the screen capture!

A lot to think on.

@Thure - Putting your children in jail to prevent them from having children might also be an exploitative game play. I can see people placing every son after the heir in jail, limiting any future claims being passed on.

Jokes about the Bishopric of Uppsala aside, I believe it could be strategically wise for Republic’s to use castles as their capital holdings so that their counties aren't so easily sieged. Theoretically, patricians should earn enough money from their trading posts that holding a castle won’t cause a significant loss of income.

Uh... *perks up*

There is a bug where an Indian bishop could be the next candidate as cardinal, but couldn't be invited because they are out of the popes diplomatic range - which would result in the college 'getting stuck' and slowly losing cardinals. This would fix that.

I'm pretty sure patricians don't get wrong holding penalty for holding baronies. Unless holding the barony would mean going over demesne limit, there should be no income loss.

One small suggestion for the new map mode - could the map after ctrl+click on the country show only direct vassals of the country, in the similar way that culture map mode works in EU4? Or for example made other realms color a bit darker. I think it would make a representation a lot cleaner, because now it is hard to say which realms were actually split.
