The diplomatic treaties are converted into the big ck_alliances.txt file. However, if you search through it, several countries have multiple treaties. For example, some countries have personal unions with several different neighbours. Others have multiple lieges. Is this intended?

The multiple personal unions are intended. They reflect a situation where a part of the realm is not ready to be directly inside the realm, but close enough that it doesn't warrant a simple vassalization.

The multiple lieges is not an intended feature, but rather a port of CK save game inconsistencies... Still, I am surprised since most inconsistencies are filtered out. Maybe this reflects an inner bug ; what are the con sequences ?

Sorry to ask, but I understand that EUII was the original bridge for CK to Victoria. Your mod allows EUIII, but is it stable enough to convert back to Vic to convert to HoI II? I do notown EUIi or EUIII, and am going to purchase one of them (preferably EUIII).

Thanks for your thoughts.

I am not sure about what you mean by "stable enough".
If you mean "does it crash often", the answer would be no. It has been some time since the last known bug has been solved. Since this is a mod, there are four possible outcomes :
- either it fails to convert : this doesn't happen often by now, and most problems come from CK save inconsistencies,
- or it fails to start : this happened once or twice in past releases, but I've not heard about this for some time now,
- or the game crashes because of some inconsistency in the mod which did not prevent it from loading ; this also happened once or twice in the past, but has long been unheard of,
- or the game runs for some years : at this time, you are left with what EU3 handles you...

So, I tried running it, and after apparently merging counties etc it gave me this error message:

FATAL ERROR

java.io.IOException: Unable to create directory : C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis III\mod\CK\history\provinces
at cv.CvProvince.setOutputPath(CvProvince.java:113)
at CK2EU3.main(CK2EU3.java:91)

Any idea what could be causing it?

I also tried Ulmont's converter, but to no avail. Interestingly, that too seems to give up when it is about to start writing.

Could this be a Vista thing?

FYI, I have CK:DV, EU3:IN, and both are unmoded and generally un-fucked.

Right, it was indeed a Vista thing. Reinstalling EU3 in a different directory (outside Program Files) solved it just fine.

However, this was a test conversion since I'm still at a very early date. Trying to convert more recent saves (from the same campaign) seems to crash the converter. It still works on the old saves though. Weird.

PS this is the error message I get

FATAL ERROR

Hey, I am using CK-DVIP, is there anything spacfic I need to do in order for it to convert to EU3 normally or does it "notice" it's DVIP automatically? or what?

darn.

Um, what do I do if I get this:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at ck.Country.loadAll(Country.java:105)
at ck.Analyzer.<init>(Analyzer.java:38)
at ck.Analyzer.loadAnalyzer(Analyzer.java:42)
at CK2EU3.main(CK2EU3.java:83)

(Using Vanilla CK:DV)

First you have to list all DVIP tags and put them in the data file with appropriate conversion to EU3.
Second, you must do the same thing with all cultures.

Only then do you have a chance of not getting that error...

You can start from Jordarkelf data file : most likely, you'll only have to put it up to date with the current data file format, something which should be easy.

Yves

Yeah, that's if I use DVIP, but the error I just posted is when I use Vanilla CK DV

Hum...
That's unnatural.
You should send me your save so that I can see what's wrong.

Hey, sorry if this has already been answered, but I have never really used java, although I did download the latest version. When I use the bat file for the conversion tool, the black window says this

"Exception in thread "AWT-Windows" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError:OutOfMemoryError
at sun.awt.windows.WToolkit.eventLoop <Native Method>"

and goes on for sometime afterwards with other things like that. Do you happen to know how to fix this?

Yes.
Look for the strings Xms an d Xmx and increse the values that immediatelly follow them. For some reason, youi require more memory than most people to run the converter.

I installed java but the java command is not recognizable in the command prompt. Anyone have any ideas?

If I just run the .jar the menu and interface works but when I press done it closes out and nothing happens.

edit: figured it out

I assume this wont work with mods that add provinces like Whole World? It crashes when i try to run this using that eu3 mod. Is there any way I can mod this exporter to work with this mod?

Also if I add the provinces that were added in europe in this WWM would it work out with converting? Or would it still crash?

It will do anything you need, provided you speak to it nicely :D
In that case, this means you have to adapt the data file, adding whatever
is missing and removing whatever is removed form the mods you are uising, either in CK or in EU3 or both.

Most likely, this usually means:
* editing the cuilture section
* editing the county to province bindings
* editing the tga conversion list

Sounds easy, but it's really boring and you have to do it with patience and care.

Hi Yvesp and Ulmont!

I would like to throw my two cent here since I kind of "experimented" with both converters. So I posted a little help during a topic in the MM forum. Here is my conclusions from using both converters:

Well I'm glad I can help, i used these two converters:

(Below)This one gives you a euiii savegame, but in order to work you need to at least have a miximum of 176 independent countries. So try to make your counts rule 3 demesne and give 5-6 demesne to your dukes. Therefore your chances of making a successful conversion are better. Also I found some problems, like not translating the form of goverment, my kingdom culture and other stuff. Plus you might get a massive blob for your kingdom.

(Also below)This one converts your CK save into a mod. I chose this one cause I think it gives the best result. Basically it creates two folders: common and history. You can copy and paste them over the ones in the MMP mod folder. I advise you to make a copy of the original MMP mod folder, cause by overwriting the original common and history folders you loose the normal MMP starting map. Also since this converter gives you different settings to choose from you might want to look at the end result to see if it gives you a result you like. It took me a couple of tries until I got what I wanted. (If you have a big empire like mine, described above)Also I recommend getting your starting nation as small as possible cause you will get (as described above) some problems, plus nasty rebels and almost no income from your large track of lands (sell provinces at the start so you get the best out of your empire).

I try to run the converter and it just flashes for a second and nothing; I cannot understand where to enter the java command line either...

Have you a log file in the directory where you installed the converter ?
It's ciontent could be usefull in case there is one.

Thanks,
Yves
