This looks very promising. One thing I would like to see (if it is within your power/abilities) is adding provinces to the US. I feel like if the map were expanded, it would take a lot longer for either side to gain territory or conquer the other, much real life. Expanding the size of the map could also allow you to include major rivers like the Mississippi as navigable by navies. In the Civil War, just as many naval battles took place between gunboats on the rivers as they did at the open sea. Adding major rivers could also more accurately portray the inability of armies of the era to cross rivers in some areas, creating strategic checkpoints.

Ankios, I hope you will take these ideas into consideration. If you would like any help with events or background information, feel free to message me. I am currently studying history and political science at the University of Minnesota so I have access to a multitude of resources that could be valuable in creating a ACW mod.
 
No news tonight !

Yeah, that's a shock, the first night without news of changes into the mod since I began to talk about it here :eek:

But it is not because I didn't worked on it :D I focused this evening on balancing. And I think/hope now I have done enough on it, at least for this version, to assure a balanced first beta.

And the reason I think I succeded in balancing the game ? Well since yesterday I played twice the first year of the war. once as the Union and once as the CSA. Both times, I had my ass kicked by the other side on "very hard" !

1) I have to say (and I stay modest here :D) that I never ever lost a game of HoI2 on very hard playing a major power. This is the first time, and I lost (almost lost actually, on the verge of losing, as I only played the first year) with both the USA and the CSA. That feels good because I'm now sure that this mod will propose to you a challenging version of the original game.

2) I think it means both sides have their chances. On "hard" or "medium", the war can be undecided for the first twelves months, so the player will have to make the good choices to assure victory.

I must say that I probably made some bad choices. Those who read the "tactica" may guess :D



My last try tonight : I hold the line (perfectly !!! check those borders :D no events, just war), before being kicked out of vital territories.

Now, I think new tests will be on you guys.

So, there is two things left for having this beta released : fixing graphical bugs and finishing those texts for the events.

I must say what you said here is right. It may clearly improve this mod to have those features.

However, I do not think it would fit with HoI2. I made at least a dozen tests, and with the current balance, the war may clearly go on for two to three years at least, and may continue after 1865. So for HoI 2, because of the way the game was originaly made, more provinces would mean one main thing : in the mod, one side MUST begin to win as early as 1861 or early 1862 to assure an historical win in 1865.

Maybe I'm wrong to do it like that but this is my first objective : to be close to history with an open ended scenario (potential Dixie victory).

However, I already began to think about how to do an ACW mod for HoI3, and made some work on it. And for this game, more provinces will be clearly needed. Lots of them are already in place but I just don't like the USA map in HoI3. So this map will have to be entirely remade for an HoI3 ACW mod. And the way this game works will clearly allow more territories, seas as rivers, etc...

I don't think I will begin to work on that for a few months (mostly because I want to wait at least for the 1.4 patch for HoI3 before buying it). But at that time any help would be great ;)

But for now, I want to finish the ACW mod for HoI2. And I don't think I will modify th map because well for now it fits great with the work already done !

But I may change my mind :D it will depend of all the betas feedback on this subject ;)

I was really busy for the last days but I did not lost my motivation don't worry Personal stuff to take care of. So that's why you didn't get some news. To be concrete, I still work on those two last things : graphical bugs (for events for example) and texts events. Lots of them won't be done, but enough for a first beta. And several people contacted me by MP to help me on historical writings for events so after the beta this should go much more fast.

I also have to make an important change in the course of events I didn't think of before, but now I think it is really important for historical reasons. I hope it won't take too much time. And I think you will love it so I won't talk about it for now :D

I am right on the schedule though. I will totally respect the "1st - 10th december beta release" ! I hope I will have done all I want for this first beta for tomorrow night or sometime in saturday. A release just before or during the week end isn't that nice ? :D

Oh, and by the way, to be nice and make people forgive me for the lack of news, an example of event that will happen in early CSA game. If you think some changes must be done in the text, please tell me ASAP. Useless to remind you english is not my mothertongue, so it is probably not perfect.

The last AI for both sides test : here the CSA AI is doomed, they put too much forces in the West while the Union AI sent its armies in states with high IC. Do not make the same mistake !

Vesimir : you want it so much I hope you will be the first to propose an early AAR at leat for the first year to permit to everyone to see what this mod do right ? :)

I would thank you a lot for that as you have a real talent in writing AARs ;)

As stated yesterday, I am almost ready to propose to you the v0.1 beta version of the mod.

However it won't be tonight. I still have some things to do before any release. I hope to do it during the week end.

However, you must remind that the only assurance I can give you is that the mod will be out before December 11th ! I can always find a bug I must fix before a beta release that I must adress.

At last, comes the first version of the mod, the beta version 0.1.

To download it, please follow the different steps. You will have to download several files as I can't upload important files for now. This should change for future beta versions.

EDIT : BETA FINALLY RELEASED

IMPORTANT : for now, you will need the 1.0 version of the Armageddon game. I'm planning to fix that ASAP

For those who will have tested it, of course I wish to have as much opinions as possible to improve it.

I also wish to have your opinion on two things put in the read me file :

Final version possibilities :

1) Would you like a version of the mod that begins earlier ? For example the day after Lincoln's election ? It is clearly possible to make the Union incapable of building units for several months, South California is still in the Union and you live the early debates just after Lincoln's election.

2) I will probably implement events for the Union to work like the CSA. Union States will be part of the Union as alliance but will join militarily the Union later in the weeks before the war. I am not sure of it yet but that change may happen. What is your opinion on that ?
