The shortcut should be created during the install. Which edition do you have: Gamersgate, Steam or Impulse? It is the installer's responsibility to do that, not the game itself.

Have you applied the 2.2 patch? Do the crashes happen at the same point in time; if so have you checked the save game file for the NoCultureGroup problem in this sticky thread?

I have the gold version of Rome with Vae Victis. It happens when I am clicking on other provinces looking for trade routes. It is not date specific. Sometimes the music stops, and then shortly thereafter it crashes. I haven't seen a link for any dates or anything like that.

The Gold version is sold by 3 separate distributors, as I said: Gamersgate, Steam or Impulse. Where did you buy yours?

Have you applied the 2.2 patch (if not, note that games started under 2.0 or 2.1 may not work under 2.2)?

Try deleting the files only in the /map/cache/ directory.

I bought the CD/DVD in a store, not from gamers gate or steam. I have noticed the music stops, and then it can continue for some time, or it crashes a year or so after the music stops.

I tried deleting all the files in the map cache and then loaded the game to play, and it crashed on me. I left the provinces folder, but deleted everything else in the directory, and it crashed. Very frustrated I must say. Never had these problems with EU. Gonna uninstall and install again.

Are these the files I should delete?

Climate
Topology
Region
Positions
Terrain
Trees
Colour Map
Default Map
Some files have paint brushes

Sorry, couldn't cut and paste a print screen of them.

no

Only files inside the cache folder.

those files are in the map folder.

I have done that, and it seems like I have to do that each time before I load. It seems to work, but now, I am getting a Run time error and it is crashing again........ugh.

How can this be possible with Rome when I never had problems with EU?

I did as suggested Gaute, and created a games file, but I am still getting to a point where the music stops, the drum beats stop for troops and so on, and then I get the run time error. All the files I deleted are back in the Map Cache folder again.

Could Civil Wars be triggering this? Is that possible? Those are the only things I can think of that were happening. I had barbarians attack me and wipe out colonies, but that was about it.

No need to respond, I have removed the game and will not be playing it. Very disappointed.
