Perhaps it would be good to set up a mini Europe (one province per country) and use off-map IC to give the USA and CSA something to trade with. That way trading, pirating, and blockading would actually work.

Another thing of note is the cercumstances surounding the Emancipation Prolomation. What should be the triggers for being allowed to declare it as the Union?

What can be done for the handling of peace to end the war? The South at most wanted the boarder states to be annexed to the CSA and at least wanted a status quo ante bellum. The North wanted at least full annexation of the CSA. To do this for the Union in HOI2 is easy... to show the war goals of the CSA are MUCH harder.

Then of course comes the matter of slave revolts. There was certainly a possibility that the Southern Slaves would open a second front against the CSA in such a form. What would such a 'state' look like? How would it function. Simply being rebels would probably not do them justice. What would the triggers for their revolt look like? Could the USA's actions influence them?

Lots of thinking for you to do.

Well actually my idea was to put the entire countries that could have had an impact during the war : France, the UK, and Spain for the question of Cuba. Those countries have to be strong enough if they have the possibility to go to war (Cuba question for Spain, Civil war for france and the UK, Mexico for France). And with their entire territories in Europe, that give them enough IC to trade. What are your thoughts about that ?

That's a good question, I absolutely did not thought about it until now...

The North wanted at least full annexation of the CSA. To do this for the Union in HOI2 is easy... to show the war goals of the CSA are MUCH harder.

In both ways it is easy to handle, through two differentg ways : important territories controlled by one side and number of Victory points. For example, if the CSA controls DC, Chicago, philadelphia and New York, with enough victory points, they get their victory and have peace with the annexion of most parts of new mexico territory and every border state but Kentucky (as this one didn't had much debates and join the Union without much protestations from its citizens).

Then of course comes the matter of slave revolts. There was certainly a possibility that the Southern Slaves would open a second front against the CSA in such a form. What would such a 'state' look like? How would it function. Simply being rebels would probably not do them justice. What would the triggers for their revolt look like? Well I'm not sure about that... I don't find it appealiing... revolts are a good way to handle that, a Slave nation being created brought us too much in a "ahistorical" situation and I think they would have simply joined the Union.

Lots of thinking for you to do.
;)

Some news :

I still work on the mod. However, I lost time with my events problem... I will stop working on them, and work on things that work to be able to release the v0.2 beta.

Some news :

I continued (slowly) the work on this mod. For the next beta, there should be some new stuff that should be entirely playable.

However, during the last month, it seems that people (already !) lost their interest in this mod, despite frequent news.

I must say that I love to work on this mod. However, the thing that made me keep working har was the high interest numerous people showed during the first steps of the developpement.

As the interest seems to have lowered (which is totally comprehensible with the promise of the 1.4 patch for HoI3, the coming up of Victoria 2 that should promise us a good civil war simulation, and lots of stuff that PI is promising us for the coming year), I am not sure if I will keep the developpement any longer, especially if I am the only one that wish to play it :)

The first beta was playable. I will finish the second one and still hopes for remarks from players who played the first one. If I have not more feed back I think I will make this second beta the last one. Which is not that bad as the first one was playablen and the second one will only add flavor to it.

Anyway, thanks for the people who followed this mod, I hope you enjoy it for those who already play it I (if I may) really think it is already an enjoyable simulation of the US "war between the states".

I am watching, but i don't always comment too much.

When you release a new beta, i will definitely play it. :)

So the mod won't be continued after the second beta?

How sad. :(

It may be continued, it just depends of the interest you guys have :)

But one thing is for sure, after I finished the second beta, if there is real interest in the mod, I will recruit because I can't do it alone anymore...

are there realy so few people interested in this? I of course follow the development of this mod. I understand your feelings ;) but maybe you should go on with the development, maybe there will be more interest in future releases...

Time for news !

The work is going well. There is still things that I can't do, and that makes me progress more slowly but I am almost ready to launch the second beta.

You can expect lots of great new stuffs this time, especially events, balancing, and the shift into the developpement I told you about a few weeks ago.

A struggle between the USA and the CSA next to the Mexican border in april 1862.

Thanks to Gukan, now there is sprites for CSA and USA troops with historical uniforms. This makes clearly the game being better it really add something.

One of the reasons I took more time than I predicted is how much work the addition of Mexico brought to me. Not because it was "vital" for the war, but because it gave me the tools I needed to add things that I really wanted to do.

Those things won't be entirely done, it will miss a lot of work but you will be able to try it and to realize how much this mod will become.

The last game test in may 1862. I had to make some last balancing changes because Dixie was way too overpowered. The Union almost never won before those changes if there was no human player playing it.

One other really important information is that I will try as much as I can to release this new beta version before the week end. because after the week end lots of you (and also myself !) will be on Arsenal of Democracy I bet :)

And this will be very important, because as soon as it goes out, I will have to test it and play it to find if I need a lot of work to adapt the mod for AoD, and what can I use from it to add things that would again make the mod better.

So the third beta version "should" be on AoD and HoI2 if it is easy to work on it for both games in the same time.

I hope to have more news from you in two to three days ! But I promise nothing :D

I am currently working to have the next version out tonight. I might be tomorrow. I m currently correction somethings and dealing with some bugs too have a as clean as possible version for you, and most importantly working with the patch 1.3 !!!

Here is the beta beta version v0.2

First of all, here is the last post of this thread, as the mod is moving here : North American Wars of the XIXth century.

Since I began to work on this mod my idea was to be able to play three wars : the Texan revolution, the Mexican-American war and the US Civil War.

Now the mod is the "North American Wars of the XIXth century" as those three scenarios are available (but clearly not finished).

So in the beta version, you will find as new :

1) almost a bug free version ! no more strange pop ups at laucnh or things like that. I dealt with all this

2) new sprites for units

3) two more scenarii : the Texan revolution is clearly not finished as it as to be more scripted to be historical. But give it a try ! it cost nothing, and who doesn't want to be Travis on the walls of the alamo ? :D The mexican-American war is also here. however I NEVER tried to play it, so it means I don't know how it's like to play it, if it is balanced (my guess is the US will crush Mexicans sooner than in the relality because the US can produce a lot much more without any balancing). I just verified the few events that exist so it is here mostly a free for all not much events, just war with one year to be ready !

4) The arrival of Mexico ! logical as it is a much more important country for two scenarii now

5) lots of new events, but this still needs a lot more work.

6) more historical content

7) a clearly lighter mod, with lots of useless content removec ! The mod now is less than 100 mo, including music ! So you'll be in game in no time !

8) of course more fun !!!

I hope you all will be able to test in a few minutes. My advice on the US Civil War is to begin to play as CSA : lots of events had to be created but you don't always hove informations on what happen when you play other countried for now. So to understand what happen ad to be able to react properly (especially as the Union), begin to play as the CSA.

I add that I am looking for people interested in modding with some experience who would be interested to help. Even a very little help can add a lot. Just look at the sprites for the USA and CSA units ! Gukan did , it is not much but with a few people doing some little help like that the mod could become really great I hope.

apologies for buggering off for a while, ill be happy to do anything you need done, just post what you need done events, leaders, descriptions, ect

Hey Ankios,

Here is something that might provide a little bit of help. This is my old Civil War mod from the pre-Doomsday era of Hearts of Iron 2. I has a Civil War, Mexican-American, War of 1812, and Revolutionary War scenarios. I did ALOT of work on it, but it was just too difficult with one person doing everything. You might wanna check it out and use the files to help out with your own scenario. I included some of Europe and Canada in addition to what you have on the map. My main issue was I couldn't make a good tech tree, so eventually I just gave up trying, haha! I'd check yours out, but my install is pretty messed up from modding a long time ago and I just haven't had time to redownload a fresh install off GamersGate. I might have to do that later today to check yours out. I'm not sure if this will work in the latest edition of HoI2 with the expansions, but give it a try. I made it in mod-dir format so it won't delete anything.

Anyway, feel free to use the files/scenarios/ideas and moddify them as needed. I'd rather see them being used than sitting on my harddrive. I have all sorts of other files laying around too from the project, so let me know if you want those too. I use to mod alot so I might be able to help you out if you need it. Hope this helps!
