What about this :
1) If there is one clear winner of the vote, he/she will get the special trait.
2) In case there are more winners (= a tie), they will all be lynched.
IMO this can result in an interesting first day (special trait) vote

Randomly distribute the trait to one of the winners in the tie. Don't tell us who.

Otherwise, give the trait to every winner up to and including a 3-way tie, any bigger than that and no one gets it
