Well just quit playing a game due to how lame the AI is.

England and America did nothing with pretty much their entire navies..playing from 1936-1947. As the Italians I was able to completely blockade england while apparently the English navy decided to sit around and do nothing. As well as the American navy sitting around and doing nothing about.

This also seems to play out with the Japanese AI vs the American AI as well. For pretty much the entire game all AI countries did pretty much nothing with their navies. Even German sat around with tons of subs and ships in port doing nothing when they could have been waging the battle of the atlantic.

Huge AI problem. Not much of a game when all the nations with ships dont use them.

try updating to 1.03 / 1.04

Version

I was using version 1.03

I bought the game, updated to Version 1.03 then this was the first game I played as Italy. Im an old hand at HoI2 so wasnt much to adjust to other than how important some of the new things are.

An the Americans and English with over 300 ships each did nothing to try and stop my 30 ship Italian fleet from sinking over 3k English convoys. Effectively putting england out of the war.

Also the Super stack problem still seemed to be very real in this game as well. As most minors and even the English seemed to just keep huge stacks of troops at some locations for no purpose. The allies also never attempted an invasion of Europe at all, and I played clear up until 1947.

As I said some major AI failures...makes the game super easy as the axis but not very fun honestly.

chaos,

I wonder if what you are experiencing may be something of an anomoly. I have played a few games as Germany and one as Italy using 1.03 and 1.04b. While I could say that the allies could have managed their strategy better (including the use of their naval power), I would not go as far as to call the AI an impotent failure in this arena.

In the games I played at normal/normal 1936 scenario, the allied navy usually decimates the Spanish Navy, harrasses my convoys, and otherwise challenges the Italian and German fleets (in one game they destroyed Italy's ability to transport troops altogether and effectively stopped my Sealion attempts).

I have yet to see the Brittish navy sit idly by while I invade Brittain, and although I experience varying levels of success against them with submarine warfare against their convoys, I usually have at least one or two battles that nearly wipe out my submarine fleets when the US or UK navies finally catch up to me.
