i have finished about 5 campaigns since i bought the game, yet there are still a couple of things i don't get..

1) Prestige. it's the only thing i go low at on my score. i sometimes find my Prestige score 7:1 to a Great Power. i do not start alot of wars, and even if i do start one, i always make sure it doesn't cost me 100 Prestige.

2) for politics, i know that as a constitutional monarchy, i get to set a ruling party my self or have let the elections decide. my question is, whats the militancy cost for changing ruling parties? and if it does raises a whole lot of militance for your POPs, is there a way i can play with their ideology (like setting taxes too high or too low) so that they go liberals instead of cons. and elect te party i am hoping for?

3) last question, is there any way i could encourage Capis to build a certain kind of factory? i sometimes feel like, when i demand a certain good out on the market which i am not producing, Capis tend to build a factory for it. i am not sure though.

1) Setting the defence budget will get you a small, but steady trickle of prestige. I think the great powers always do this. Satellites and dominions will also give you a small amount of prestige and the UK at least has many of those. Claiming colonies is also a major source of prestige. If you don't get any colonies the 7:1 relation to other great powers would have to be expected. Winning wars by accepting a peace offer is often better than sending your own wishes.

2) Changing your ruling party in a constitutional monarchy raises MIL by +2 for Laws by Decree, +1 for HMs Government and +0 for parliamentarism (which you don't normally get except through events). You're best of with setting a new ruling party shortly before an election and do whatever you want to do (building factories, recruiting soldiers). Liberals and Socialists are easy to get into power, if your ruling party allows maximum taxes. Just tax everybody very at unsustainable levels a month or two before the election and you'll get a liberal or socialist party in power. Liberals are very hard to get rid of, though.

3) Your method of encouraging capitalists will have a small influence as it will raise the the price of the good. It's better than nothing, but the odds are you'll get another glass factory, all the same.

Also with regards to declaring wars, it costs less prestige if the country you're targeting is close to or above you in the leader board.
 
how does trickle of prestige work? do you mean that i am more likely to get those events that i get a prestige boost from, or does the prestige automatically generates every now then?

coz it says in VickyWiki that my capital ships give me some kind of prestige, but i never notice that they do.

Actually, it is dependent on how much prestige the aggressor and the victim has.
-100 or less (I think) it costs 1 prestige. (if the victim has it, player prestige doesn't play any role when the prestige of the victim is below -100).

You get a couple of points prestige now and then. I've never seen more than one or two, but maybe more are possible.

I haven't seen capital ships give prestige, but they sure can cost you prestige when they're sunk. I think it's 1 prestige a ship, but it may be 2, I'm not sure.

thats true, but there are other factors also. From the wiki:

"Declaring war
If the target has -100 prestige or less then it costs 1 prestige to attack them.
If the target is close to or higher than your power level it will cost less than 100 prestige to attack them.
If the target is far weaker than you, but has greater than -100 prestige it will cost 100 prestige to attack them.
In V1.02 and onwards the hit for breaking a peace treaty is 100 prestige."

Declaring on a nation that is closer to you or above you in terms of world power reduces the prestige hit. I've seen it as low as 25 for some of the great powers when they have prestige in the thousands.

the link above shows the prestige gain for reforms, according to the list it is a small lump sum monthly.
 
Ways to keep a higher prestige are by claiming colonies, not declaring war on a nation unless they are bankrupt, and keeping your defense spending on the maximum the entire game :)

There are some reasons to scrap old ships :cool:
 
Adquiring colonies due to colonial buildings is what does the trick IMHO in the prestige race.

There is a bug however and naval base size does not matter at all, despite what the game says.

What determines you to be able to build colonial buildings in a given region is:

- You need to have adjacent territory to the region in which you are trying to build a colonial building and

- you need the right techs to be able to colonize that province given its life ratings. The amount of buildings you can be creating at the same time is restricted thou, so I recomend building all that you can each time you finish building some.

If being in the top by prestige matters to you, then I suggest you to research like crazy those life ratings tech and get a foothold as soon as posible near a good source of colonies (Africa is the obvious choice but there are some more also in Asia). Britain will hate you thou and those buildings cost a lot of resources to get some dirt poor useless territories that will cost you a lot more money than they produce (in this Vic is hightly historical)

I dont really know what the Ai does to get all that prestige, I've seen GB prestige drop by more than 500 points only to be way up again on top after some months. Im guessing it must be some bug or something.
