They left Paris undefended?!?!?1
God is truly on the side of the Kaiser.

The ways of the AI are indeed mysterious.:)

@qwerkus: If the French losses continue like that, I suppose that partisans will pose more of a threat to your success than the regular army. On to a succesful 1917, which will hopefully see the French and Italians surrender. I'm curious, how you'll handle the Brits, though.

Victory in the east, but a looming economic crisis and powerlessness at sea pose grey clouds on the horizon... sometimes this game can be more historical than I give it credit for. Shame the AI doesn't put up much of a fight!

Let's hope that France surrenders soon, or the shit will proverbially hit the fun...

So, the Russians are turning Communist, and the Germans are becoming Fascist...

... history repeating itself?

Good to see you back with another great update. To help you with the savegame war loss numbers I would assume that losses = { tag = FRA value = 36134.594 } means that france lost 3,613,459 men.
I came up with that number because they would clearly have lost more than 360,000 men during the heavy fighting in 1916 alone. And should they have lost 36,000,000 men France would be as sparsely populated as New Zealand.
But to be sure just send an PM to OHGamer he can help you for sure.

Feedback

Enewald: Actually, there is no more Kaiser, but hell yes: undefended Paris was quite a surprise.

Polykrates: Me too. Just kidding: there is a plan ... erm at least a beginning of a plan.

Rabid: The situation ain't that bad. I'm still making money, and from now on, it's only going to improve ...

Kurt_Steiner: Even if France doesn't surrender, there are many ways to win this war.

CaptRobau: Thanks: short, but nice comment.

whitesoxfan: Actually, most of the fascist voters are from eastern territories.

Treppe: Not sure about your results. I'm still testing this.

To all: my desktop burned out. I don't think the HDD is hit, but all further testing, and updates to this AAR will have to wait for new parts. I ain't rich, so this is going to take time ...

I sure hope the files can be recovered...:(

UPDATE LVI: January 1917 - PART I

A NEW ALLY

For the last 6 months, von Hutier's VI Korps has been busy helping out our Austrian ally in northern Italy. Needless to say that without its aid, the front would have broken a long time ago; thus current orders remain unchanged: stop the italians whenever possible. An the latest hotspot would be Modena.

958-02_01_17e.jpg

Far more south, exciting news reach our Central Command: with Queenstown and East London finally under control, we now occupy the entire Cape province.

959-02_01_17a.jpg

Why was it so important to take over those 2 backward provinces ? Because it allows us to propose an advantageous peace deal to South Africa; having been utterly crashed and beeing home to a sizeable anti-british boer population, we want the whole Cape province (Plan 2) and war indemnities and political control. It's harsh, but hey, someone has to pay for the party.

960-02_01_17b.jpg

Of course, under the current level of pressure (german troops everywhere), the SA government happily agrees.

961-02_01_17c.jpg

Jey ! We not only secure another long-lasting front, but also managed to secure a potential immigration-powerhouse state, on top of gaining one more ally - even though it's current combat ability is nearly zero. Having fulfilled our main objective in the area, we decide to settle for a defensive war, by pushing back the portugese backstabbers and establishing a solid frontline.

962-02_01_17d.jpg

In France, things are not so brillant though: in order to avoid unecessary casualties, we order Ludendorff to call off the attack in Besançon and wait for a better time to reduce the pocket. The battle of Melun is still raging, claiming more and more enemy divisions, while the fight over Paris is nearly over.

963-03_01_17.jpg

And on February 4th 1917, the occupation of the french capital begins. We redeploy our troops in the area to cut off Amiens.

964-04_01_17.jpg

One day later, von Hutier arrives in Modena. Though we stay confident in his abilities, we always monitor his battles very closely in order to avoid such things as enemy reinforcements, austrian withdrawal or unappropriate terrain decimate his soldiers. Join operations are always tricky.

965-05_01_17.jpg

Russia is a mess: it seems that not everyone agreed with the Bolchevik revolution, triggering a civil war. Siberia and the far eastern somehow decided to seceed, while White Russia (in the Caucasus) becomes home to all those who want to crush the revolution.

966-06_01_17.jpg

Throughout January, the situation becomes more and more desperate for the French; after the massacre in Melun, the entire central is collapsing, opposing only minor resistance in Orleans and Chartres. In fact, the only remaining combat-able frenchmen are trapped in the pocket of Besançon, surrounded by 47 German divisions. Ludendorff is well aware of his advantage, and watches closely the latest enemy redeployments before dealing the lethal blow; his only concern at this moment is keeping his own losses at a minimum..

967-09_01_17.jpg

It seems that the British also realize how urgent the siutation has become in France, and decide to launch another landing in Brugge. Unfortunately for them, von Lettow had plenty of time to digg in, and is more than ready to repell any attack.

968-11_01_17.jpg

On January 12th, time has come to finish off the French; we launch what we hope to be one of the last grand offensives to destroy the pocket of Besançon.

969-12_01_17.jpg

And the day later, Paris is occupied. Never since the beginning of this war have we been so close to victory. In less than 3 years, against all odds, we managed to take over 2 amongs the greates european capitals. Only London would be left to make our victory complete, but we secretly hope to force GB to peace talks without having to invade the Island.

970-13_01_17.jpg

As usual now, first things we do is getting a german flag where everyone can see it and opening an emigration bureau - though the French don't seem to be interested in joining the winning side.

toureiffel.jpg

Our offensive in Besançon is progressing nicely. With sufficient troops, fortifications are no more a problem.

971-17_01_17.jpg

On January 18th, the population of Paris decides to take matters into it's own hands and rebells with the strength of almost 10 divisions. Of course, we are going to crush them. It's only sad such things happen, since countless lives will be wasted, for zero gain. (Darn scripted events !)

972-18_01_17.jpg

On January 21th, the last Amry corps arrives in Besançon, although the battle is nearly over.

973-21_01_17.jpg

In central France, the defense of Orlans is nearly entirely destroyed (only 1 div retreating), leaving our troops in front of a wide undefended open land for the first time since this war broke out. It can be quite a shock, when you are used to have someone with a gun in front of you, to find nobody. One keeps asking himself "Where are they ? What happened ?" Well guys, you won - they lost: that's what happened !

974-25_01_17.jpg

Towards the end of January, the resitance around Paris is defeated, leaving only Amiens with its level 5 fort and ****** shore-bombardment

976-28_01_17.jpg

And thus ends our update. Monthly overview to follow...

UPDATE LVII: January 1917 - PART II

OVERVIEW: February 1st 1917

In the West, there is no more front. The enemy has only two isolated pockets left, harboring some troops: one in Besançon - which is under control, and one in Amiens, wich is a dorn in our foot. Between the two: more open land, just awaiting to be occupied.
Notice that Amiens would be totally meaningless if it wouldn't convey that annoying feeling of an uncomplete victory. One way or another, we will have to deal with it. 30 years from now on, you would probably nuke it - just to demonstrate how nobody should mess with you, but sadly enough we have no nukes (not even people who believe it's possible to build such bombs). Thus it's going to be the old fashioned way: artillery and stormtroopers.

977-01_02_17a.jpg

A quick look at the ongoing british landing in Brugge... well, the picture says everything.

978-01_02_17b.jpg

Northern Italy is a different story. Since operation white mountain, the area saw nearly uninterrupted fighting, mainly due to the Austrian inability to set up a coherent frontline. Von Hutier is still busy winning the battle of Modena; looks like he will have plenty of work. Once the war in France is over, we might dispatch some reinforcements there, since our intelligence about the enemy strength tells us that only 2 more Army corps (14 div) would be enough to size Rome in no time.

979-01_02_17c.jpg

No territorial change on the Bosphorus, but it looks like Bulgaria is facing some rebellion problems - though the partisans seem to enjoy watching goverment troops fighting off the British army, without intervening. Some popcorn perhaps ?

980-01_02_17d.jpg

Not much change in the Ottoman Empire either. The UK is slowly (0.5 prov/month) gaining some ground, mainly thanks to civil unrest, which diverts many turkish soldiers.

981-01_02_17e.jpg

On to South Africa, were most of the change took place. The annexation of Cape province more doulbed the size of our holdings there, while South Africa - now our ally, is already fielding new troops. We left one corps dealing with the portugese in Mozambique, while our remaining soldiers are redeploying to Namibia. Depending on the portugese threat, we might consider invading Angola.

982-01_02_17f.jpg

Army Comparison table:

Enemy division losses seem to be slowing down, as the combat inensity in France diminishes. The nice suprise are Austria fielding 5 new divions and South Africa adding 4 divions to our alliance.

989-01_02_17m.jpg

Domestic Siutation:

A look at the South African (Cape province) population charts: left, the situation just after the annexation; right, situation on February 1st. Notice the ideology shift, and the first signs of immigration.

983-01_02_17g.jpg

Further investigation shows craftsmen immigration, which can only mean one thing:

984-01_02_17h.jpg

Wohoooo, the South African blessed us with a machine parts factory ! Nice catch. This will considerably speed up immigration, on top of earning us some money once completed.

985-01_02_17i.jpg

In Rheinland, although immigration stopped due to the acquisition of South Africa, internal migration continues at even increased rates: latest estimation shows 92.8% Germans - down 1 point when comparing last month.

986-01_02_17j.jpg

Game stats:

Notice our cash reserves, increasing once again.

987-01_02_17k.jpg

Since the state we annexed ain't that rich, the main reason behind this would be the WE (war exhaustion) loss due peace with SA. WE gives a negative production modifier; as WE decreased, production goes up again, driving export revenues and thus taxes revenues.

988-01_02_17l.jpg

In order to get a better overview of our situation, we choose to monitor WE and Population in addition to the usual income/debt numbers. The Annexation of SA increased our population by about a million.

WE: 25.3
POP: 131,686,000
Daily Income: +554
Debt: 0
