Awesome AARquitania:Reborn! Alternate History with DVIP
Greetings to all the good gentlefolk of the Paradox AAR forums. I come before you today to announce the pre-launch of my new project involving a campaign to unite the Occitan peoples of Europe into a mighty state. My first attempt at this sort of game (link in the signature) was sadly derailed after my laptop and all the game data were stolen about a year and a half ago.
My heart and soul had gone into that project and to tell you guys the truth it nearly broke me to have it snatched away. My feeble attempts at getting another writing project underway feel by the wayside as school and other life matters interfered. Today though, I am happy to claim myself commitment free for most of the summer (got a few graduate classes but who studies these days anyway?). My plan then is to play through a couple decades of a Duchy of Toulouse 1066 start and then pick up the AAR itself when my first heir takes over the reigns.
I take this course of action for a couple reasons. First, all of us have played enough to know that some world events are almost always going to happen. Look over there! Germany's collapsing with realm duress! Byzantium's getting schooled! Shock! By letting the game run a few dozen years it sets up a bit more of an interesting dynamic: some states will be right were you would expect them to be while others are in unique and interesting positions. Second, the first few years of any 1066 start are pretty boring except in a few cases. Gain money, buy forestry, gain more money, buy courthouse, raise taxes on merchants, gain money, buy royal post, raise taxes on merchants and nobles! I would prefer to skip that part to spare you my enthralling commentary on the subject.
The structure of this AAR will be similar to what you saw in my other attempt, tracking each of the major events through pop-ups, council meetings with dialog once in a while, wars with detailed tactical maps (lots of arrows etc.). I really liked putting the effort into making Aarquitania a success and you can be assured that I will try my best to uphold that pedigree.
I also want to take this opportunity to say that even with my previous experience with playing this realm before, I still don't know that much about the country itself. I know that Occitans and French are quite different in style, language culture etc. but don't expect too much of that being explained in my AAR. If anyone that is an expert on the subject wants to post here or pm me, I would be more than happy to try and include their advice!
With that said, I wish to thank everyone once again for supporting my previous AAR and ask that they return for another go at constructing a kingdom to stand the test of time!
