As per title: I'm wondering if there is at least one dev team working on an improved version of Victoria, much like what has been done with Arsenal of Democracy from HoI2 or For the Glory from EU2...

I dislike the look of the maps in Hearts of Iron 3 and Victoria 2
Me too. That's why I would have greatly appreciated a new version of Victoria instead of one based on the new engine.

There was an ongoing project and it was abandoned? That's a pity...

I would also appreciate a V1.5, but I'm willing to give V2 a chance. At least after the first couple of patches.

Who knows, maybe the cries for an improved version will be greater after the new release. FtG and AoD sold well despite successful (in terms of sales) sequels after all.

I think it'd be nice if a simple patch reducing some "restrictions" (and maybe fix a few minor bugs) on the old game were released, e.g. 100 more tags and such. That way modders can do a bit more with it.

That will surely not happen. Paradox would have no incentive to for it, and no one would purchase rights to the engine for something this minimal.

That's wasn't the point. No one would be purchasing anything, I'm saying that Paradox should release a small patch that would allow modders to modify the game a bit more, but nothing to the extent of FTG or AoD. Then again, I take a similar view in-re removing the limit on cultural tags in Crusader Kings. :p

Multi-resolution support and zooming with mousewheel would already be something for me (once I got accustomed to these things I can't really play without them anymore...).
