HELP! Buy now or Buy Later?

Hey,

This thread is in Victoria 1 Forum, because well apparently if I don't yet own Victoria 2, I can't post in there. Sort of annoying but sure.

EDIT: If someone can move this to Vic 2 forums, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

My question:

Is Victoria 2 really as resource intensive and resource hogging as GamerGate pronounces it to be? I mean, is it really worse that M2TW Kingdoms?

The GamersGate page says requirements are as follows, & brackets show my configuration:

Intel® Pentium® IV 2.4 GHz (I have T8100 ie Core 2 Duo 2.1GHz)
2GB RAM (I have 2 GB RAM) &
NVIDIA® GeForce 8800 or ATI Radeon® X1900 video

My question is regarding the Video card. I have a Intel 965 Express Chipset Family built into my Lenovo T61 6463-CTO PC. Now this supposedly has 398 MB of memory according to DxDiag. Also it can play Kingdoms fine.

But my question is this:
Should I buy this game? I mean are the requirements overstated? Geforce 8800 for a Paradox title similair to EUIII (which I could play fine)? Would I be wasting my money if bought Vic2 do you think? If I can play it I want to buy but I don't have 40 dollars to waste to find out.

Also where can I find a list of common bugs in the game. I can seem to find it in the Vic 2 forums, and the one link I found I was barred from because I haven't bought the game. Quite frustrating.

Thanks. I just need to be informed before I buy.

Your rig would struggle with V2 especially after 1880. To get an idea about the bugs in the game simply read most of the forum posts. V2 doesn't crash much but is all but unplayable because of numerous bugs and lag. It has potential and everyone is praying for a patch but I don't think it will ever be as good as V1.

hey,

thanks for that quick reply. Anyone else have any further thoughts or experiences with a similar rig?

Try the demo and see for yourself.

Thanks for all the help

Just as an update, I ended up getting the game.

I was pretty satisfied with how it ran.

But then I tried the Victoria Fantasia mod, which leaves each nation with only 1 province, and little to no armies. This mod ran BLAZING FAST.

So my conclusion for those who are still debating?
- The game is supposed to run blazing fast, but a rig like mine will slow it down considerably, unless you simplify the game start immensely.
- However, if you play Vanilla only, you will never know how blazing fast its supposed to go, so you'll probably be satisified by your own pc performance and think it's normal.
- In my opinion the game is still very playable with this king of rig, especially if you turn speed up. Now don't expect it to run perfect, but it still is damn worth the money.

Enjoy.

Because the world starts more or less empty in Victoria Fantasia. If there's nothing to calculate it'll go quick indeed. When I was 50 years into the game it slowed down to Vanilla speed for me.

I have the 945 chipset in my lenovo laptop, EU3 won't run at all, Rome crashes.

The CPU isn't the issue, the graphic chip is the roadblock, and of course with a laptop you have to buy a whole new machine. Anyone successfully run V2 on the 945?

Oh, my, the Demo runs on my poor little 945! It eventually craps out but I can run it! Amazing.
