Playing England Watkaboi, trying to diplo vassalize Russia, in the same alliance, FAR larger economy / armed forces / empire / advanced tech, killer monarch stats (Lizzie dilpo 11) against a dead beat (Fedor the 1st - diplo 5), shared explorations.

Must have tried 15 - 20 times and they continue to resist.... peasant scum... I do hold 4 of their cores...is that a problem or is there some other reason? Or are they hard coded to be morons? ;)

Anyone know?

I would say that they are the same. There are some conditions that you do not list, do you fulfill them as well? Royal marriage, relations<190, target country must be at peace and must not have vassals or be a vassal already. Owned cores may be a problem as they lower you relations with them over time.

Without looking at the save, I'd say Russia is almost certainly too big to be diplo-vassalized.

We can and do have a royal marriage... of course I have to bring relations up everytime to offer...they are at peace... they are not a vassal already (I could not offer if they were)...

But they do have 2 vassals... that was never a problem in EU2 IIRC?

they have about 30 provinces to my 200 +

.....so is it them having vassals of there own? Is that the reason? Or them having 30 provinces? Is that too many?

Well I just took Russia's vassals away and tried about 10 times with no joy, so either they are too big (though I dont know why since, if their big, my England is gigantic) or they are just hard coded (some way in the mod) to decline, is that possible?

Is there a province size that will automatically decline?

I quite agree that a "successful Russia" is too big to vassalize.

And this is why it boggles me (back in EU2) that the AI Spain can often get away with Diplo-annexing an AI Portugal quite often. (The two countries sometimes end up with an event that allows AI Spain to vassalize Portugal, when Portugal king dies because of Moroccan disaster). That part is easy to accept. But the "way too frequent" diplo-annexing (not event driven) of Portugal is kinda CRAAAAAAZY. It's like suddenly, dozens and dozens and dozens of Portuguese colonial provinces from Brazil to Bombay to Mombasa to Inner Timbuktu and Inland Congo all suddenly turn the color of Spanish Yellow. It's quite frightening to see this happen.

King of Spain: "Attention, Brazilians!! You will now stop talking in that nutty Portuguese language. You are now all subjects of the Spanish crown! Start learning proper SPANISH!!!" :D

At this point, Strat, I'm just starting to think that there may be some hard-coded "If a country IS THIS BIG, you have less than a .001 % chance of ever vassalizing it!" rule. My next suggestion would be.... try to whittle down Russia to a tiny nation, like with only 3 or 4 provinces left. AND THEN see if you finally succeed in vassalizing it.

The problem is they will never declare war, as nobody else does anymore ;), so the BB gained could be problematic...

Maybe I'll try a new game as France and get to Russia much earlier... just want to see what a WC in Watkaboi would look like...

If you have superior CRT, it won't be difficult to get enough WS for vassalization by driving a wedge from Ingria to Moscow. In FTG, winter wars are significantly easier because attrition favours those who control the province as opposed to those who own it.

Yes, it's possible to connect it by adding a strait in Db\map\adj_defs.txt. Manpower isn't affected (you always get maximum MP from your continent) but it would remove the tax penalty.

Yeah but if England was connected, they would get much more MP wouldnt they?
No. England gets full MP from every province that's in the continent Europe, irrespective of connectivity.

On the other hand, the OE with Istanbul as capital, for instance, would not get any MP from Asia should it lose Bursa because its capital is situated on a different continent.

Ok, but if england was connected, wouldnt I get MP from china so long as my empire stretched that far?

Admittedly its been a while since I checked MP FAQ in EU2

Yes sure. Missed the part where you said you're attempting a WC. Good luck. The worst enemy in WC is yourself (when I try it I always get bored in the mid 16th century or so).

Yeah, yourself and the damn rebels. i realise its a loooooong tedious journey, just wanna see the mad income at the end.

Heres how far I got this time, but think Im really going to have to try again, with England again since its connected now (thanks again). Really have to shut Russia and the Orthodox states down early = one less religion to deal with later.

Smashed France and vassals

Stole all Norway's colonies

Took out Lithuania while they were still Pagan

Slowly whittled down the Iberians

Plan was to diplo annex Hungary, Naples, Poland and Russia to kick start BB wars, but yeah...think its time to start over and focus on Russia and stealing some Mongol colonies before they have time to grow...this mod has really been a blast to play, map is lovely and the events are just right, plenty of BB and inflation lowering events.

I would go full decentra before starting BB wars.

When I played this mod, I had a problem with tolerating religions. I think I was playing Spain and I was always getting +1RR in anglican provinces no matter where the protestant tolerance slider was set.

I guess I would lower centralization once the desired land tech was reached (not sure what that is yet...)

At that last save, all the provinces were Catholic, Lizzies stats really helped in converting (plus theres an English event that converted a couple of tough provinces, Novgorod being one).

I figure most of the world is Catholic and Moslem, if ya can tolerate both of them and convert the rest of Europe along the way, all ya have to deal with is all those funny Eastern religions and the revolts that go with that.

Thanks again for all your help
