I've had HoI2 since it was released, but I never got around to getting the expansions until now. I'm a little confused about a couple things...

The manual says I recruit spies by going to the Intelligence tab, clicking on a country, and selecting Send Spy from the mission list. However, when I do this, there is no mission called Send Spy. In fact, I can't see where a recruit spy button or option anywhere....I even looked under the Production and Diplomacy tabs. Can anyone help an idiot out?

Also, I read from the game description that ARM contains new alternate history scenarios. Alternate indeed! I tried reading through the nation descriptions, but they were very general and brief. Are these based on a backstory of some sort that I'm just ignorant of?

I'm about to start a new game as Germany, are there any major changes to the game that would affect the general strategy of the Third Reich?

Finally, are there any good graphic mods for this? I don't really want a whole mod with gameplay changes and such...just something to spruce up the aesthetics.

Thanks!

I'm pretty new to this, myself, but I read the 120 page instruction manuel, recently, and going on memory, two things come to mind, that may be the issue, here.

First, you CANNOT issue an intelligence order unless you have enough money to do so. Very early in the game, you pretty much have insufficient funds to do ANYTHNG, for a week or so, starting from '36. But even in THAT case, I think "Send a Spy" would be there, but just greyed out.

Secondly, I'm PRETTY sure you CANNOT send a spy to an allied country. So if you want to send a spy to an ally, it wont' even be an option.

Hope these help.

Well, I'm playing as Germany, so I have well over $500 after the Reoccupation of the Rhineland event. Also, the option is greyed out on everyone I click on....I have no allies at the moment, so everyone is neutral. The option isn't even present when I select Germany.

Did Armageddon change something on the Intelligence page? There's no manual for it, so I'm not sure.

The procedure for spies was changed in the Armageddon 1.3 beta patch - instead of sending individual spies to countries, you increase funding once every 6 months to a maximum level of 20.

As MT01 said, money is a major determinant when sending spies.

Patches up to 1.2 had the send spy missions - it's the third option down when you click on a country.

I see, ok. So when I select "increase funding" it will automatically send new spies to a bunch of nations? What if I specifically want some spies in the US (right now I have zero)...is there a way to do that?

Thank you!

No sorry - it increases spy levels across the board - you can't target specific countries.

Sorta. When you ally with a country your spys stop being active, however if you want you can reactivate them and start spy missions again.

With Arma, go to the intellegence page and select your country, there you need to increase the intellegence funding (although I think this is the beta patch :/). Otherwise the old DD way was go into intellegence tab and select a country and hit the send spy button. It's very odd that you don't have a option for it, so I'm assuming you have the newest patch

The Armegedon senario is more for multiplayer play than single player since it gets a bit boring and repedative without the events. Basically all nations have the same IC and similiar techs, but some starting positions are worse than others (Prussia gets crushed, Bourbans get massive).

For a Germany start there isn't a whole lot different except for escort fighters now being a brigade and you can get brigades for ships now. If you're using the new beta patch then expect more amphibouus landings and slightly better AI.

edit: emu'd :p
