I also think people should be more likely to go to the courts of their allies, friends and relatives when exiled, provided those individuals are not sworn to the same direct lord who outlawed the character. If the character has no living relatives or friends, they should proceed to their neighbors, who should be able to choose to either accept or reject them. They should then move farther and farther afield until they find sanctuary. No more "exiled from Scotland, immediately take up residence in Georgia." If the banished Scot manages to settle in Georgia, he should have had a long, arduous road getting all the way out there.

Tell me if any of these are already in CK1

Bard/Songwriter: Character spends his days writing songs and instrumentals. He has become quite popular with the peasantry. +3 diplomacy +% prestige +1 stewardship +3 charisma (is there such a trait?) +1 fertility

Egomaniac: This character only things about himself and will stop at nothing to gain more notoriety. +%prestige +3 intrigue -2 diplomacy -1 stewardship

Sentimental: This character wouldn't hurt a fly, and seems to spend much more time contemplating the simpler things in life than his fellows would approve. -4 Martial -% prestige, +4 diplomacy -1 intrigue +% piety

Nostalgic: This character seems to relate too much to his childhood. Hes often contemplating his tender years, and has little interest in the present. After all the constant references to his early childhood, his peers tend to think of him as a bit crazy. A bit gentle by nature, this one. -2 stewardship -1 Martial -% prestige +1 diplomacy +1 intrigue

Historian: This character finds great value in studying the past and recording the present. He is studious by nature, and makes fine application of what he learns. +2 martial +1 intrigue +% prestige

Gardener: This character is obsessed with horticulture and botany. He would spend his kingdom's resources on building parks and personal gardens. Sometimes he can be seen in the palace court yards getting his hands dirty in the soil. Sometimes seen as odd, but the people love him for his philanthropy when its not seen as opulence. +% prestige +2 stewardship +% building speed

Sketcher: This character can make a fine sketch, and contributes to the realm's artistic scene, as well as adding an immense catalog of sketched local flora and fauna. +% prestige +1 diplomacy +% piety +1 martial +1 stewardship

Traits should definitely take advantage of the new ambitions system.

Ambitious: +1 Intrigue, -1 Diplomacy, much greater sensitivity to ambitions being fulfilled or not.

Meek: +1 Diplomacy, -1 Intrigue, less sensitive to ambitions' fulfilment.

And traits that make characters more likely to have certain ambitions.

I also wish there will be more traits, hoping that most of them won't be a net gain or loss, more having pros and cons.

Having some specific events triggering upon certain traits (like cuckold, or lustful, or aggressive) would be nice and would help building the character's persona

how about these:

courteous - impolite (rude)
determined - indecisive
tolerant - narrow-minded
optimistic - pessimistic

I like the one about Gay characters and I especially like to have the Knight trait :)
that count be bound to a Title that would appear before his name "Sir" :)
actually It could be fun if traits would have a value of (-10/+10) and could determine and change the names so you could get for instance Sir Robert Lancaster the Bold

I like the idea of Outlaw trait added to the game... I like all of the traits so far suggested. The Kings of England... most notably King John... often 'outlawed' opponents who then found shelter in the Welsh principalities of Gwynedd.

I LOVE this suite of traits Zechs, especially the poet! Reminds me of Gwynedd's poet prince Hywel!

Also, I do want a gay trait. I would prefer the word gay or lesbian, rather then homosexual. I do not wish for sodomite as lesbians can not commit sodomy, lol.

I would like to add the trait

Royal- One or both of this character's parents are rulers. This character's membership within the royal family attracts others to him or her in an effort solicit patronage or influence. ((I don't know what percentage to traits would be appropriate, but I do think that a bump for prestige equal to that of a duke would be appropriate))

On a side note, I would suggest that when a new ruler becomes king, simutaniously the AI checks to see if he has children and apply the royal trait accordingly. Also, when a new character is born it is checked to see if one or both of the parents are king or queen rulers.

I like several of the ideas presented here. :)
"Cuckold" in particular stands out as an area not yet covered in the game. This should give a serious penalty to prestige for any noble unfortunate enough to receive it.

Victim - This character has had so many bad things done to them that they have settled into the role of a victim, at least outwardly. -1 martial, -2 diplomacy, prestige loss (Nobody takes them seriously), +1 intrigue (They have an easy time gaining other's sympathy) piety gain for Catholics. Characters would get this as a 'bonus' after being trashed around a while.

One thing I'd like to see is a greater exclusivity among traits. I'd like to see characters have no more than 3-4 traits (except for very exceptional characters). In the original CK, having 3 traits was impressive. By the final DV patch most average rulers had 10 traits.

Get it back to having a very small number of traits per character and it makes them individuals. If _everyone_ has energetic zealous cruel arbitrary lustful indulgent, they're not unique. If you can see in the history file "Louis IX the Cruel", you remember them more.

If I remember correctly, Shogun: Total War had 'pedophile'.

Can't tell if that were relevant or no, but 'sodomite' would fit into the theme of CK2. Sodomy was hated by the Church and could get a person into deep trouble.

Yeah, I think I agree with you here. Kings and the occasional prodigies/heroes/villains should get a much greater concentration of traits, but people like Baron Jean D'Eu :)p) should be as bland as his name.

New traits would be nice, but I would love to see them develop logically (a hidden tree, perhaps?) over time, and some traits exclude or preclude others etc.

Also, I think the developers have great room to add flavour with traits, with some very unusual possibilities from very unusual medieval lunatics.
