What attributes make a good Diocese Bishop?

My current DB is:
Chaste/Sceptical/Martial Cleric/Celibate, stats 11/4/4/4 and piety 50.

My other options are:
* Chaste/Zealous/Master Theologian, stats 2/9/8/5 and piety 0

* Chaste/Zealous/Illness/Scholarly Theologian, stats 5/10/2/2 and piety 0

So I'm assuming that option one would be better than my incumbent, because I'm thinking that Diplomacy, Intrigue and Stewardship are more useful than Martial for a bishop, but I don't actually know, and I can't seem to find anything in the FAQs. Is piety important - the current DB has some and the others don't, but that's because he's been bishop for ten years or so...

I think I've read somewhere that only his education matters, his stats are irrelevant. But I've never really figured out what a bishop does for you anyway.

This.
What does a diocese bishop do anyway? (aside from providing good court education if above diplomacy 8)

He serves as a modifier for all kind of events.

So if you are an Evil sceptical King who continually spits in the face of all the Pope's teachings, then should you try to install a well educated capable bishop to try and soften your relations with the Pope, or is it better to install a backward thinking retard as a bishop so he isn't effective at causing religious troubles at home or causing other bad effects tied to negative piety?

Basically, the bad effects tied to negative piety, do they increase in MTTH based on a good bishop or a bad one?
