Yes, we do have. Merula and Draconius are available to command legions if needed.

Well, Gnaeus will lead the forces moving from Aquitana to Central Gaul so the armies in Aquitana and Cisalpine Gaul both are in need of capable commanders, Senator. As for Aulus - well, I presume he stays in command of the Central Gaul siege force, at least until both armies link up.
(No idea how that works mechanically speaking, but this is speaking from a realistic viewpoint)

It's backstabbing Carthaginians that worry me more than Gauls, to be honest.
I presume recruiting in Cisalpine Gaul is not an option? (No citizenship..)
Indeed. Which is why we need to have all provinces above 30 and then grant citizenship to Liguria, Venetia, Dalmatia or Cisalpine Gaul - or several, one every X turns.

Since the consul isn't ordering me what provinces to visite i'll do it myself:

Etruria, Lugdinensis, Venetia , Apulia, Bruttium, Campania, Umbria and Latium will be on my way this year.

I suspect the dread monster called "Real Life" loomed up large and interfered with the game ...

AAARGH! Every time I wanted to start working, RL kicked in. :eek:o

Okay, I`ll update today at the usual time and the Deadline will be Saturday, so we still have three turns this week.

And speaking of turns. Next week there will be only two, since there are some celebrations around Wednesday. And there will be definitely no turn on Fridays, December 24th and 31st. :D

Good, for a moment, I thought we had such bad rolls that the army in Gaul had been wiped out and we'd been backstabbed by Carthage who just invaded and occupied Rome :D

Don't speak too loudly .. That might still happen .. :p

@Stuckenschmidt: Don't worry, take your time. It's your game, you decide how fast or slowly it goes.
Just tell us when things get delayed, ok?

Finally everything else it out of the way, so I can start updating.

EDIT:

Not an outstanding turn, but I guess you`ll be satisfied.

Senate report:
Senator Gnaeus Scipio Lentulus makes a sacrifice to Hades, but the God of the Underworld doesn`t feel compelled to do anything.

A slave revolt occurrs in Cisalpine Gaul, but is immediately suppressed by the present troops under the command of Aulus Quinctius.

The Senate reminds all Senators of the upcoming elections for the Officials for the years 252/251.

Consul report:
Quintus Livius Varro informs the Senate about an envoy send to Egypt in order to negotiate a Defensive Pact. Unfortunately the Emissary is completely ignorant concerning the local customs and offenses everyone he meets. Finally he gets thrown out of the country and should be lucky to be alive and in one piece.

Another envoy send to Pontus does better, but can`t accomplish its mission successfully.

Pontifex report:
Lucius Aquila once again travels through the Republic in order to raise the Happiness of the Population. He succeeds in Etruria, Lugdinensis, Apulia and Bruttium, where the Happiness increases by 5 each. His stay in Campania, where he sacrifices to Ceres, is followed by an extraordinarily rich harvest, thus the Happiness raises by 10.

Due to the Gaul War the happiness in all Provinces decreases by 1.

Provinces with below-average Happiness are Apulia, Bruttium, Venetia (45 each), Umbria (30), Latium (22) and Narbonensis (20).

Aedile report:
none

Quaestor report:
Tiberius Belisarius, having sorted his private affairs, manages the tax administration properly again, so the tax revenues of the last six months are as expected and sum up to 935 Denarii. The Treasury holds 3.400 Denarii.

[= 2.785 Denarii (last turn`s Treasury) - 50 (Envoys) - 70 (Reinforcements) - 200 (Happiness) + 935 (Taxes)]

Censor report:
The Popularity of Lucius Aquila raises to +3. Due to the fact, that he sent an incompetent man to Egypt, thus hampering roman interests, the popularity of Quintus Livius Varro drops to +1.

The popularity of Gnaeus Scipio Lentulus (+2), Sextus Atilius Aelianus (+1), Tiberius Belisarius (-1) and Publius Annaeus (-1) remain the same.

Tribune report:
Legions in Central Gaul and Aquitania receive reinforcements.

Tribune Sextus Atilius Aelianus, having his troops increased by 4 Legions, manages to catch the Gaul forces, before they made their way to Belgica again. In the following battle, the roman victory was never endangered. After having suffered severe casualties, the remnants of the Gaul Army flees to the north. The Troops left behind to continue the Siege of Alesia suffer some casualties due to a disease spreading in the camp. The Garrison of Alesia is affected too and further decimated.

Tribune Gnaeus Scipio Lentulus starts a siege of Lemonum. He decides to starve the enemy out and the strength of the Garrison is reduced.

Warscore: 7

Spy report:
The Spy reports, that the whole Gaul force is in Belgica. It consists of 7 Units after having received some newly recruited troops.

Foreign affairs:

I told him 300 times he couldn't kick cats there like we do here in Roma...

Now, onwards to business

I propose we keep a token force sieging Lemonum, reinforce the Alesian siege and storm the city, and strike with the remainder of our forces at the Gaulish force in Belgica. If we win there, Gaul will have to accept whatever terms we propose.

Diplomatically, I want to propose an NAP with the Greek Cities. Why, my fellow senators would ask, and to what I reply, we need additional safety measures if we are to continue expanding Roma. Carthage will surely reach out for them, as they feel threatened, and we do not want to see that happening. It will also tell Macedonia it would be unwise to try to claim Greek lands and expect Roma to help them.

Economically, our treasure is booming, and since the Gauls are being pushed North, I will order the construction of a Port in Narbonensis.

I will order the recruitment of a Legion in Campania. I recommend no Legions are recruited in Etruria until we get a Temple built there. Question is, if we should trust our God-forsaken corrupt Aedile, who steals from the Gods, to oversee such a project.

Our pontifex will receive funds for a final journey throughout the Republic, which I hope will be remembered by the Gods themselves as a magnificent display of Roman faith and virtue.

Your faithful and honored Consul, servant of the Republic, Quintus Livius Varro

Consul Varro,

We will need that treasury if we annex Gaul. We will wish to start major construction projects in those provinces as soon as we can.

I support the plan for attacking the remaining gaulish armies, but urge the Consul to smash them with as many full strength legions as we can muster. Siege forces can operate without being at full strength, and we cannot affort the gaulish armies to regroup.

Which Tribune will be in command of the force attacking the Gaulish army I leave up to the Senate. I merely ask that our siege forces are supplied with capable commanders as well.

OOC: How did the Siege in Aquitana fare?

StuckenSchmidt said:

Just two? Didn't I order reïnforcements in a third province?

Personal order: Recruit clients. Stop spending money on silly sacrifices that accomplish very little :p

How did the Siege in Aquitana fare?

As usual. Garrison -1 CV without casualties.

Just two? Didn't I order reïnforcements in a third province?

But there were weak Legions in two Provinces only.

Senators,

Today, I would like to announce my candidacy for the office of Aedile, I am very experianced in the office and I will do my best to serve Rome. I would also like to announce that I shall be holding games in Latium to celebrate the victory of Tribune Aelianus in Central Gaul.
Quaestor Tiberius Belisarius

But there were weak Legions in two Provinces only.

I had three - Central Gaul, Cisalpine Gaul, and Aquitana. That didn't come out of thin air.
*shrug* It doesn't matter much.

It is good to hear that our forces won the Gauls. I believe that we should send couple of legions from Central Gaul to Aquitania. We should not storm any fortifications at Central Gaul. That place is already collapsing. Gauls suffered a defeat but unfortunately they received reinforcements.

I have decided to run for a Consul.

Senator Gaius Draconius
