This was a good turn! :)

Senators,

Our great nation is at a crossroad. Will we become an empire or stay a small(er) state?

I vote for EMPIRE!

Our legions are starting to show there true value.
I'm suggesting a push with 4 legions to Belgica. If we can occupy Belgica Gaul will be split in 2 parts and victory will be ours.

On the building of a port in Narbonensis, i believe that this isn't a wise idea. The happiness of the province is very low and our corrupt Aedile is going to cost us money. It would be better to wait untill after the elections when we have a better aedile.

I'm going to keep visiting the core provinces of our nation. This because there are no legions in italia and we need to lower the risk of revolts.
If theres a revolt in Gaul there are alot of legions around that can crush it easly. There for the moment i will only visit these provinces: Apulia, Bruttium, Venetia, Umbria and Latium. Im only going to visit Narbonensis if the consuls find it necessary.

I'm also going to run for consul this year.

These are my points i'm going to try and forfill:

1) End the war in Gaul with a crushing victory.
2) Start huge building projects in Gaul
3) Grant all none Gaulish provinces statehood.
4) Improve relations with Greece and Pontus

Pontefix Aquila.

Can you hold games in arena's build by other senators?

Senator Aquila,

Given the current state of our treasury I see no reason to hold back on attempts to lift the spirits of our people. It may cost funds but there will be times when we will need every little bit of support we can muster amongst the populace.

For this reason we should also start a temple building programme as soon as the elections are over.

OOC order: Recruit clients, hold games in Latium :)
(Presuming nobody else is doing that already..)

edit: Never mind, still lacking funds :p

Could the Pontifex can show up at Tiberius's Games in Latium and make a sacrifice? Wouldn't that add some sort of extra advantage?

edit: Randakar, I already am holding games. :p

OOC: Sounds like a plan. I don't have the denarii for it anyway :)

You can try and the Dice-God will decide.

It says gaul has 7 units but that doesn't mean 14 cv. I believe atleast on unit has only 1 cv after the great battles. So its 13 or maybe even 12.

Apparently there was some misunderstanding last turn, so I call dibs for Games in Umbria, which I had planned for last turn already

Main RP post this evening, of course ;)
Though you can already state if you prefer me to lead the troops in Gaul for the next years or if I'll be more useful as Quaestor.

They had 5 units in Central Gaul, I believe. So we're looking at a minimum of 2 fresh units. Given that they have 3 provinces unoccupied to recruit from the maximum of new fresh units is 3. Let's assume they recruited everywhere they could - that should be possible with 500 denarii.

So 3 out of 7 are fresh. 4 of them are possibly on half strength. 1 unit was destroyed completely.

Bah, I'll run for Pontifex.

Pontifex Aquila, I, as Consul of Roma, order you to travel around the Republic, honoring the Gods and spreading our faith throughout our lands. You have agoraphobia? I don't care...

I also announce I will, for the 3rd or 4th time, run for Pontifex Maximus.

Ex-Pontifex, and now Ex-Consul Quintus Livius Varro

Patres conscripti,

Alesia should fall pretty soon, now.
The Gallic army has been severely weakened, but they've been reinforced at the same time. Still, victory is at hand.
I might try to hunt them in Belgica, but in this case it would be preferable to have 5 legions at hand, to avoid any nasty surprise. I also hope our spy is reliable, because if Vercingetorix is in another province, he might decide to come back to Alesia, or to Aquitania, and the local sieging troops would be in trouble.

I will also organize games in Umbria, which really needs to get some happy events to cheer the minds of the locals. My envoy there had been delayed due to the last battle, but he should safely arrive there soon, with the required money.

My only comment on our internal policy is that I hope that Narbonensis won't revolt soon, which is a serious risk right now. Hopefully, once Aquitania is secure, our Pontifex will be able to visit the province.

Last but not least, since we'll have experienced and efficient military leaders available for Tribunes, to end this war soon, I'll run for Quaestor, to ensure we'll have enough money to pay for our numerous expenses once we'll have the 5 Gaul provinces to build infrastructure in.
Some might think I should stay in Gaul unto the very end, but let's face it, we've rarely had the same leadership during all our wars, we tend to change it very often, and this hadn't stopped the Roman expansion in past centuries. Besides, since I'm going to hunt the main Gallic army next month, either I'll crush Vercingetorix once and for all and will end organized resistance to our conquest, or I won't deserve to stay in command of our main forces in Gaul.

All other candidates seem suitable to me, and I'll gladly vote for them.

Hostile Takeover

Carthage, a nation of merchants, which wealth depends on trade, dominates the western Mediterranean Sea, Iberia and parts of northern Africa. But the Carthaginian Senate realizes, that there are no further opportunities for more or less peaceful expansion, unless it decides to declare war on other countries.

In early 252, after a period of vast recruitments of mercenary troops, a large force invades northwest Africa and starts the Numidian War with the intent, to completely annex all territories ruled by the King of Numidia.

Corruption

Censor Manius Curius unveils a corruption scandal in the Republic, with several Senators being involved in it. In the aftermath, 16 Senators are stripped of their privileges and banned from the Senate, thus being replaced by an equal number of people who representate the so called "Homo novus".

(Effects: 16 Clients turn into unaligned Senators)

Stupid Numidians, they kind of deserve what's going for them.

Can I just sneak in troop movements, since I realized I didn't order them? If so...

Move the 4 most fit legions from Central Gaul to Belgium, under Tribune Aelianus. Those forces shall be joined by one legion from Aquitania, and one legion from Cisalpine Gaul.
Move one of the remaining legions in Central Gaul to Aquitania.

Spreading Unrest!

I. Secession

Shortly after the departure of Pontifex Lucius Aquila the Province of Narbonensis, bled dry by its Governors and his taxmen, experiences a Revolt. The rebelling People march toward the main City of Narbo Martius. The Governor calls all men able to bear arms to the Defense, but as soon the Rebels appear in front of the City Walls, the local auxiliaries, supported by the majority of the population, mutiny. They open the Gates for the Rebels, who storm the City. The Governor flees to the Harbor and goes aboard a ship. Unfortunately the sailors sympathize with the rebels. They arrest and chain the Governor. Finally, under the frenetic cheers of the population, he is tossed overboard with a weight tied to his feet. The Province of Narbonensis is lost for now and generates no income.

The ongoing construction of a major port is stopped and all progress is being destroyed by the rebels. The investment of 200 Denarii is lost.

II. Domestic unrest

Outside of Rome, the rural population of Latium raises in a revolt and an armed rabble hunts down the tax collectors. The Province generates only 50% of the usual income for the duration of the unrest.
