Late 252 B.C.
Senate report:
The Senate unanimously agrees to extend the Defense Treaty with Macedonia for another four years until early 248.
In eloquent speeches the Senators appreciate the Censor`s proposal to grant a Triumph to Tribune Gnaeus Scipio Lentulus, but point to the fact, that the War isn`t over yet. Although they are in favor in granting a Triumph, they decide to postpone it until after the war is won.
Despite a reminder by Censor Lucius Tuccius, his proposal to honor the former Pontifex for his commitment and accomplishments is neither debated nor even noted. The people of Rome, being very fond of the former Pontifex, are quite angry about that and their Happiness decreases.
A series of games are held by some Senators. The Happiness in Latium and Campania as well as the Prestige of Lucius Aquila and Quintus Livius Varro increase slightly.
Consul report:
The Consuls inform the Senate about another Legion in Campania is ready for duty.
They report about the envoys send to different locations. In Cilicia, Sanherib II. was very fond of Rome`s condolences to his father`s death. Although he doesn`t sign a trade agreement, he donates a small golden statue of Jupiter worth 100 Denarii as gift to the Republic.
The other envoys send to Transalpine Gaul and Egypt have no success.
Pontifex report:
Quintus Livius Varro embarks on his first journey through several Provinces and succeeds to increase the Happiness in Latium by 5. Arriving in Ariminum, he personally lays the foundation stone for a new thermal bath. While doing that, an eagle circuits over the location, which is considered to be a good omen, thus the Happiness increases by 10.
Due to the ongoing war, the Happiness in all Provinces decreases by 1.
Provinces with below-average Happiness are Bruttium, Etruria, Liguria, Lugdinensis, Venetia (48 each), Apulia (43), Umbria (41), Campania (30), Aquitania, Central Gaul (29 each), Latium (24) and Narbonensis (24 - can`t be influenced)
Aedile report:
Tiberius Belisarius informs the Senate about roads being build in Aquitania and Central Gaul without nameable events. Furthermore, a Temple for Juno was build in Bruttium. But due to the fact, that he encourages the local workers to work for less pay due to this sacred enterprise, the expenses for the construction are only 200 Denarii.
Quaestor report:
Sextus Atilius Aelianus takes office and manages the tax collection properly, thus the tax revenues of the last six months sum up to the estimated 895 Denarii. The Treasury holds 4.155 Denarii.
[= 3.870 Denarii (last turn`s Treasury) - 75 (Envoys) - 25 (Spy) - 100 (Happiness) - 110 (Reinforcements) - 200 (Roads) - 200 (Temple) + 100 (Gift) + 895 (Taxes)]
Censor report:
Although Consul Lucius Aquila wasn`t successful in signing a trade agreement, it is impressed by the generosity of Sanherib II. and the fact, that Aquila obviously gained a friend for the Republic in the East. Thus, his popularity increases to +1.
The Popularity of Quintus Livius Varro and Tiberius Belisarius also increases to +1. Due to his success in Gaul, the Popularity of Aulus Manlius Merula increases to +1. The popularity of Gnaeus Scipio Lentulus remains +3.
Tribune report:
Four Legions receive reinforcements.
Tribune Aulus Quinctius arrives in Latium with two Legions and succeeds in engaging the enemy in battle. Although his performance as commander is nearly outstanding, a small part of the enemy forces manages to escape. His forces suffer light casualties.
Tribune Gnaeus Scipio Lentulus enters the revolting province of Narbonensis with a reinforced army of three Legions. Near the city of Narbo Martius he starts a battle versus the rebel army. The enemy force is completely crushed without nameable casualties and Lentulus starts to siege the city.
Tribune Aulus Manlius Merula arrives in Belgica and takes command. Immediately he pursues the Gaul army and engages it in battle. Due to a brilliant maneuver with his cavalry he outflanks the enemy force and causes a panic, when suddenly appearing in their rear. Then, the Gaul line collapses and the enemy flees, suffering heavy casualties. In the aftermath, Merula starts to siege Samarobriva.
Warscore Gaul War: 20
Spy report:
The spy arrives in Armorica. His sources tell him, that, after the devastating battle in Belgica, the remnants of the Gaul forces are marching toward Armorica. A few days later he sees Vercingetorix and his men personally near Condate. He estimates the Gaul force consists of no more than three units. Also, Vercingetorix seems to be broke and without the possibility to recruit new forces right now.
