I've been working on a fantasy(medieval) mod of HOI2 for a while. I know there are a massive number of mismatches between medieval and WW2 combat styles (close vs ranged combat, for example), but I'm trying it anyway, mostly because it focuses on total combat in a focused time frame rather than centuries of diplomacy.
I've sorted out most of the actual units (although I'm still going to finalise which units to put into which slots - which are cavalry, which are marines, etc to make the ai behave properly). However, I'm scratching my head about how to modify and use the brigades, and I'd like to ask for the combined wisdom of the forums to help!

My ideas for brigades are:
Siege equipment (provides a bonus when attacking against dug in troops)
Mantlets - wheeled wooden shields (provide a defensive bonus)
Reserve Mounts (increased speed for infantry regiment)
Engineers - as in vanilla, allowing movement across rivers
Provosts - acting as a police unit and decreasing 'desertion'
Chirurgeon (ancient surgeon)- decreasing attrition

However, there are some things which I am considering but not sure about:
Using artillery as a unit or a brigade.
Using magicians as a unit or a brigade.
Burning missile weapons (fiery arrows).

I'd like to use the brigade system to include siege equipment - however, I'm not sure how to script the effect for the brigade in boosting a units combat efficiency against fortified positions. I'm also not sure whether to write in several different types of siege equipment (rams, siege towers, ladders, and sapper units being the types I think would have a differing effect on combat resolution)

Any thoughts from anyone out there? Has anyone considered anything similar before?
Big thanks for any thoughts...

I considered that and am still considering it...sort of
Long ago I did a scheme of units and brigades, pretty much everything was kinda like you did, extra equipment.
If you want to discuss it a bit send me a PM
