Please help. My game crashes when the game is loading. The loading bar gets to about 95%, it says "Initializing Globals..." then crashes.

Windows Vista 64 bit, GeForce GTX 285 graphics card
Gamersgate- Crusader Kings Complete

Installed Crusader Kings to C:\games\Crusader Kings
Installed Deus Vult to C:\games\Crusader Kings
Unzipped the Beta patch to C:\games\Crusader Kings (said yes to all to overwrite files)

Set screen resolution to 1024x768 Colors = (16 bit)

Settings.txt reads:
1024
768
MUSIC_ON

I renamed the avi folder to avi.bak (this successfully skips the starting movie, but I was playing the movie fine before that anyway).

To check I installed DV correctly I checked: there is no folder called "DV" under C:\games\Crusader Kings or under C:\games. In C:\games\Crusader Kings\config I can see a file called deus_vult.csv so I think its installed correctly. The loading screen (that crashes) says "Deus Vult" up the top.

The file Crusaders.exe is dated as last modified on 15/10/2008, which according to another thread proves it to be the latest beta patch.

History: Prior to this install, I installed the game to C:\Program Files (x86)\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings. I was getting the same error. After reading these forums, I uninstalled everything, deleted the last couple of files that were in that directory, and then reinstalled everything into the games directory as described above.

Exception Log reads:
######## EXCEPTION: 0xC0000005 at address: 0x770CF217: ACCESS VIOLATION read attempt to address 0xE97AECC7

I can't help you with your not being able to post in the CK-forum.

But have you tried to change the resolution of CK to match that of your PC ?

Thankyou for activating my account.

Yes, I changed my screen resolution and colors (16 bit) to match the setting file. It still crashes.

EDIT: I misread your post. I have tried: 1) changing the settings.txt to match my monitor 2) changing my monitor settings to match the default settings file. Both result in the same error while initializing globals.

I've also just tried turning the music off. No music plays but it still crashes.

EDIT: Also if a moderater is reading can they please change the topic name to "Gamersgate Crusader Kings not running on Vista". Because another reader might know the answer but the topic name is now misleading, I don't have the permission to change it.

Thanks,
Tony

OK I tried installing the latest drivers. No change. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, the expansion and the beta patch after the driver upgrade. No change, same error and symptoms reported in the OP. :(
