While checking the names of german naval units I stumbled across these:
DDR;8. Flotte
DDR;10. Flotte

DFR;8. Flotte
DFR;10. Flotte

GER;8. Flotte
GER;10. Flotte

9. Flotte is missing for all of them.

Then I got curious and checked more nations and discovered something which seems to be a bad habit of one of P'dox programmers: the 9th Fleet/Flotte/Flotilla is missing for almost all nations using arabic numbers. OK, I could have understood that if he was a superstitious guy who wanted to avoid using the 13 but the 9?

Slightly worried I looked more closely at how the names of the naval units were organised. It's a wild mixture of arabic and latin numbers and often missing a proper punctuation. If it'd be 'complete' we could live with this situation but sadly there are entire lines of latin numbers simply missing:

xxx;XVI. abc
xxx;XVII. abc
xxx;XVIII. abc
xxx;XIX. abc
xxx;XX. abc

xxx=nation
abc=Fleet/Flotte/Flotilla

These nations are suffering from these omissions:
ARA
BRA
CAL
CYP
CRO
DEN
FIN
GRE
MOZ
MTN
NOR
POR
SLV
YUG

If that wouldn't be enough there are quite a lot of nations which have several double entries in their list of names of naval units.

xxx;XXI abc
xxx;XXII abc
xxx;XXIII abc
xxx;XXIV abc
xxx;XXV abc
xxx;XXX abc
xxx;XXXIII abc

xxx=nation
abc=Fleet/Flotte/Flotilla

These nations are suffering from these superfluous lines:
ANG
ARG
BOL
COS
CHL
CUB
DOM
ECU
GUA
HON
NIC
PAN
PAR
PRU
SAL
SPA
SPR
URU
VEN

On top of that are quite a lot of entries for many playable nations completely missing. Some of them, e.g. Sweden, were IRL naval powers. In addition to these are many of the revolters missing.

I originally started to check this file because I wanted to fix some oddities which caused some unpleasant surprises during earlier DD and Arma games. To be sure to get the best navynames.csv file which the community could offer I borrowed this file from my latest CORE installation (CORE Ver 0.4.9.9) which proved to be an improvement compared to the vanilla file. But tbh they've kept most of the above mentioned bugs. Ok, I can understand that fixing this file has to take the backseat compared to the massive amount of work it has cost them to fully adapt their mod to AOD and to include many welcome improvements but this file shouldn't be neglected. ;)

Now I'm in the middle of reworking the complete file so that it feels 'right' for me which doesn't mean all names will correct. I'll need definitely another week to finish it. Afterwards some native speakers should better check it thoroughly.

Sadly I can't publish the revised file without permission of the CORE devs. But I hope that it'll be accepted by them and even afterwards used in their mod, too.

Huh - lots of copy & paste errors probably originating from Hoi1 or Hoi2. Airnames.csv is affected, too. I'm currently fixing the CORE versions and I'm open for input regarding names. I don't think it's problem using a CORE version as base for your mod.

In CORE we had the errors in navynames, airnames and armynames.

I attached the fixed CORE files, they are not usable for vanilla as they lack entries for Uxx countries. But I changed several names you might be interested in. Please have a look at the Hungarian air and army names, very interesting usage of roman numerals.

Yes, there are so many leftovers that a complete overhaul of the navynames.csv file is needed. That is what I've done over the last days. ;) The airnames.csv and armynames.csv files might need some help, too. I'll check them later. I can only hope that you haven't invested too many time in doing this job twice. As I already stated above, the reworked file(s) can be freely used for the CORE mod, too. Since I 'borrowed' some elements and good ideas from your navynames.csv file it's more than fair that you benefit, too. You should concentrate atm on more important issues. ;)

I've to correct myself: while using winmerge I had turned my blind eye to the screen and overlooked that the Uxx revolters actually had entries in the vanilla file for their naval units. Therefore are mostly entries for the other revolters missing. But nonetheless the quality is sub-par.

Almost all of your changes had already been made by me when I started this thread. ;) But tbh the vanilla file needed a thorough rework. If you check the attached file more closely you'll see what I mean. I'd say that the file is 95% complete. Some minors need to be added and some names checked by the respective native speakers. Each nation which is represented in this file has now at least 30 names, larger minors have 50/70/100 while the major nations have mostly 200 names which even might be worth expanding for the USA.

Please give me your feedback so that we finally get the navynames.csv file which we always wanted. ;)

Looks good so far.

Minor issues:
shayetet -> Shayetet
Hungary is still missing - do you have proper names for their fleets ?

No, besides Hungary these nations are atm missing:

Afghanistan*
Armenia*
Azerbaijan
Bhutan*
Brunei*
Czechoslovakia*
Ethiopia*
Kurdistan*
Kyrgyzstan
Libya
Lithuania*
Luxembourg
Mengkukuo/Mengjiang
Mongolia*
Nepal*
Palestine
Saudi Arabia
Sarawak*
Slovakia*
Somalia
Tajikistan
Tannu Tuva
Turkmenistan
Uzbekistan

Those with * need a little more research. Most of the post-cold war released former soviet territories can be simplified by using the russian name. re Turkey and Ottoman Empire I'm undecided which name does fit better. Some help from a native speaker would be nice.

All nations besides Hungary and Lithuania are done. Tomorrow I'll start with the airnames.csv and armynames.csv files.
