And here i was dreaming of a CKII mod set in Japan....

Lo and behold, a complete game from Pdox! :D
My first GS game was Shogun: Total War. Then i found EU and the others and instantly relegated all other Total War games to the pile of inacurate showy crap. Now my favourite period of history, my favourite game genre and my first (computer game) love combine!

How i love you!

- I'd keep the hentai stuff off this thread because someone will probably delete it. also tentacle monsters werent invented yet in the 1400s

Well, the game probably won't lead to cosmic consciousness, but it's still worth a shot. As for the hentai parts: so the game ends before the 19th century, eh? (The era of tentacle erotica)

Now there. Total War games have their merits, too. Nobody would compare CK to Medieval Total War, after all - and I love playing both.

It's easy to earn some cash on Shogun hype, but it's hard to make a game that will be played a year after the release. Let's see how Paradox handles it. :)

No, we'll have to wait for the Fishermans Wifes Dream for that... ;)

In other news, I wholeheartedly support this. I think announcing it in the throes of Shogun 2 is a good decision. It's the same area so people will be interested in games of the same type (and deeper games about the same area) but it's not similar enough to make it a clone by any way of seeing it. I am very happy about this announcment.

As an avid student of Japan and Japanese I will be delighted to see Japan done right instead of the fiasco of Divine Wind! I believe in you Paradox!

So who else reads "Sengoku" like this guy's name?

- we've been wanting to make a sengoku game for a long time. I think the combination of having worked out some CK2 tech and being easier to pitch because people are interested in the period due to Shogun 2 made it happen now, but thats just my guess.
Also I assume that having just done all the historical research for DW didn't hurt the decision either?

I didn't expect a sengoku game, but I'm not disapointed either. For a long time I've moaned to myself that there's no proper strategy games about feudal Japan, so Paradox making one hits the right spot. All the more since it saves me from trying to fill my thirst for samurai action with Shogun 2 which probably isn't going to be any better than Total Wars usually are.

Question: Are warrior monks going to be present in game? They used to be quite a headache back then.

I was very happy to hear about this game! I helped some guys on a large-scale mod for EU3 witch would have been similar, but the project was so ambitious that it wasn't finished. I think the idea of the game seems fun, hoping for many small provinces and a detailed province management :)

oh, podcat i so envy you :) working on sengoku game... how cool it would be...

Well, poor podcat doesn't work on it.

No, but it doesn't really help that much either. The scope is so different and really specific and detailed compared to a small part of EUIII. So it was back to the books. :)

Like I said in the other thread, I am really really looking forward to this game. Japan is one of my favorite nations, and it's by far one of the interesting cultures out there. I really don't understand all the hate and disappointment (however much I would love a dark age game), I am certain this is going to be awesome.

It's no secret that I would buy anything developed by Paradox, but I can honestly say that Crusader Kings in Feudal Japan is like a wet dream come true :D

I've been hoping for this or a Three Kingdoms game before this project and the hints even appeared on the forum, so I'm looking forward to this game a lot. I'm definitely looking forward to hearing more about how the game is going to play, the assumption seems to be that it'll be similar to CK which is great IMO, but I'm sure there'll be more to it than "CK in Japan".

I like the idea of a limited scope but more deep game, and I like character-driven games.

I just don't like the setting :( Well, I will buy it anyway.

Some more limited scope games like this would be wonderful, anyway. Ancient Greece, Renaissance Italy, 30 Years War. We can only hope.

The map looks cool, and a Japan mod for CK would've been cool. What's the province count on it? It'd be cool if we have little Samurai retainers under us who follow our bidding.
Also, impossible, but Mount and Blade-style duels would be cool.
Ninjas didn't wear black, though.

I for one am happy that Paradox is making another character-based game. Personal stories, intrigue, friendships, feuds, betrayals are much more interesting to me than moving armies on the map...

I remembered what Sengoku was reminding me of!
Sword of the Samurai! (Abandonware, not going to post the link to it because you folks don't like that.) You start as a Samurai retainer, and you work your way up. It's awesome, though not everyone's cup of tea. Once you finally manage to lead your clan, the game switches into a larger map, where you compete to become Shogun.

Looking forward to it, want to see more of what happens throughout development before a verdict. Undoubtedly interesting and if CK2 is good there's a really good foundation to build upon.

Yes - Sword of the Samurai was a fantastic game.

While it did not have particularly powerful ninjas, it got the atmosphere and game setting completely right. Here's hoping Paradox will create something similar!

It's a shame Paradox will inevitably butcher this game, because it's a great idea.

I can see the premise of the whole thread is lost on you :)

As for the game, I am sure it will be awesome ... I will get CK2 (will still be my bread and butter for the next many years) and a CK-ish Japanese game :D .... pure gold.

How people can compare TW series with PI games is beyond me ... besides covering the same timeframes and being strategy games, they are like night and day. The whole stratetic element is much, much deeper in a PI game than the TW series. On the other hand the tactical part is deeper in TW series ... sadly the TW AI makes the first 5 battles fun, the rest is just rinse and repeat.
