pretty much sums up the royal navy at the moment.

*this was made in 2004 so the information may be a little off.

God only knows this is all too true. The Royal Navy seems to have real issues explaining why and how the Royal Navy is required in the present world. Which is a shame considering the huge relevance of the Royal Navy and also the large number of very intelligent people who have provided the means with which to explain the relevance of the Royal Navy and what it does. All that said, carriers are really required for the UK if it wishes to retain its current foreign policy and independence.

As funny as the video is, as true as some of the topics touched on... Like the inability of the RN to explain what it and its assets are for please remember that it is a comedy sketch. Any opinions about what we need from it are way of the mark. (Britain needs a smaller army not bigger) and about what things can and can't do are subject to a comedians license and shouldn't be taken at face value.

I liked it until they started making fun of Harriers. :p

Well, Harriers were designed as 3rd generation aircraft, so in a time when 5th generation aircraft are becoming the new standard, I see nothing wrong about making fun of ancient design like Harrier still being used. Even Russians phased out their 3d generation jets from active service.

Oh and don't even try arguing with me about Harriers being upgraded, it doesn't matter how many times you upgrade a Lada, it will never become a Ferrarri.

No but its more like comparing n old Ferrari to a new Ferrari. The harrier was capable of equalling aircraft like the F-15s and F-16s as well as other aircraft that are still used today. The GR.9 obviously wasn't the beast that the FA.2 however the FA.2 would still be a fantastic aircraft..... Doesn't spend 50% of the time on the ground in maintenence like the F-22 either.

It did when it was new though. So did the F-15, -16, -18, and pretty much any other fast jet you could mention.
Fact is it takes time to get the logistics, crew training and maintenance schedules up and running. When you're dealing with an aircraft that is on the cutting edge of our technological capabilities it only gets worse.

TRUE but very few things have had as many groundings and as many issues with maintenence. Its been aknowledged as a real issue.

anyone want to explain me the point of the two control towers?
The position of the two towers enables the bridge to be located in the best point for navigation and fleet control. The rear tower is in the best point for air operation. Additionally the front tower has secondary air control facilities and the rear tower has secondary operations and bridge facilities.

EDIT;
It decentralises the aircraft carrier as well which makes it more resilient to battle damage.
