The most important thing you need to do is to have a single, clear source of information about who's who. Both player -> RP and Rp -> player.

I'd rather have the players than the rule. But I'd rather have the rule than not, even though I'm the one who it causes the most work for. If there's really that much opposition I'll get rid of it.
