I'm a devoted HOI2 fan, and recently bought Darkest Hour after taking a really long break from HOI (about 1 year) and it's the only game I've really been devoted to. I've tried Victoria, HOI3, etc. but it was nothing for me. I really love HOI2 but this game seems really interesting and I'm wondering if I should buy it, my computer couldn't run HOI3 fluidly due to my computer performance (at least what I percieved)and it being too advanced for me, an experienced HOI2 player!

I'm really interested in the Cold War, especially in politics and Vietnam War/the Cuban revolution etcetera.

What do you think? Is it worth to buy it, will I like it or not?

E: Reading a bit, I guess it'd be better to wait for a patch??

Have you tried the demo? As this is developed entirely by us (BattleGoat Studios) this is not the HoI engine.

No I did not, it's available on Steam right? Then I will. :)

Okay, I understand. :)

I'm also considering the purchase, but I'm put off by all the complaints about graphical lag, crashing and even processor overheating. How does it play now with the latest update compared to launch? And how will it run on a Intel i3 M330 2.13 Ghz?

I've had no graphical problems whatsoever, the main problems are the AI doing stupid shit and some balance issues.

I do though. Browsing the map when filled by many units is incredibly tedious for me. But I like the game enough to put up with it. I don't have too much problems with CTDs though, not since the latest beta patch. Some of the large mods are pretty crash-prone. Processor overheating is probably more due to my fans being inefficient (idiotic design) and slowed down by dust than the game. But it only overheats on occassion, last time it was probably caused by a lengthy session of a heavier game.

I bought the game from Gamersgate during the Halloween sale. So far I've encountered a number of minor bugs (nothing too particularly jarring), the AI in places seem pretty lacklustre and I find it to be somewhat unintuitive which makes the complexity of the game needlessly overbearing. Having said that, I like the concept and what the game is trying to achieve, so for now at least it has been worth persevering.

Well I ended up buying and don't regret it. There is slowdown on some zoom levels but doesn't matter much. But man, the game speed really tanks after a few years. Very boring in peacetime. Hope it gets improved with an update.
