Yeah, we should probably implement this from now on and always have 16 on the roster. Because there is no point in ever having a 17th player only there to die. I'm amazed we've never thought of this before IIRC.
I am more willing to believe that the idea came up several times, but was refused for its humanity :D

It is a good idea, yes. :)
Though having two half-seers is -also- a good idea, and that one seems to have disappeared off people's radar entirely.

I was a half-seer in my first game :)

Half Seer?

Half Seer?
Two seers that alternate in scans. One gets even and the other odd days. I guess it adds to the unpredictibility, because wolves have harder times getting them both, but they are not really coordinated as well.

We've done it several times before, whenever a game had slow sign-ups and ended up on 16 pretty much.

Falc called it the Falcbot I think...

Roles will be going out as soon as I can do them, which could be a couple of hours.

Everyone should get a role PM.

First deadline will be tomorrow at 5pm GMT/6pm BST, so that the seer(s), if present, can scan.

I shall make the wolves hunt the spare place, which has the same chance to be a Seer as any other non-wolf player.

Though it would be best if I could get one more, and this problem won't exist.

This is, of course, one possible solution. The thing is, though, that it seems to be a bit of a chimera of a solution.

In my opinion, you either believe in the sanctity and perfectness of the 17-player Lite game that starts with a Night, or you don't.

If you do believe in it, then you should allow for every single possibility, including having a wolf in the 17th (empty) spot. Meaning you need to allow the wolves to hunt any spot they want. If they don't hunt the open spot, just have the dead player sub right in again (ahead of any other subs). If the empty spot's the Seer, you also need to figure out what to do about the missed scan. If you have two half-Seers, just give the live one the first night's scan.

If you don't believe the setup is perfectly balanced and should never be touched, just start the game with 16 players.

I've already sent out half the roles, so the point's irrelevant.

But if a wolf were in the empty spot, he wouldn't be hunted. It is very unlikely indeed that a wolfpack would hunt one of its own on Night Zero, so I have accounted for that. Spot sixteen is not a wolf.

Actually, the two seers don't necessarily alternate. It's well within the realm of possibility to have them scan simultaneously, then having them NOT scan at all on certain nights.
The reason this should be an option is to provide the wolves with a way to pretend to be the other seer to one of the seers without having to guess what night that seer scans on ;-)

Nothing is perfect. Ever.
Small tweaks that improve on the existing concept are a good way forward, IMHO.

It's not. However, with proven setups you should have good reason to deviate. :)
For the 16 player variant and the 2 half-seer variant good reasons exist..

Shouldn't we also know which role fell to the empty spot? Because in a normal settings we would find out the role of hunted player.

You will find out tomorrow at 5pm GMT.

_________

All roles have now been sent out.

First deadline will fall tomorrow at 5pm GMT. Wolves should not send in an order, seers, if present, should scan tonight.

You may now commence sham-voting.

Seers?
So you're going for the two-seer concept then?

Opening the ball :

Vote Clophiroth

for "sham-hunting" me :p

Sca... I mean hun... I mean vote Suirantes. Yes. Vote.

Nothing odd here people. Move along.

VOTE Randakar

He knows why.

Besides, he's a wolf - No doubt about it.

Yes, but when I say "just start the game with 16 players" I mean nothing more than that. No funky rules about forced hunts or skewed setups, just one less villager, period.

Also, VOTE FALC.

I don't trust that guy...
