Found a sort of a Sir remark "Huomio" as in atenttion the finnish version. For Sir, Commander is "Herra" but its always followed by title so hard to find a good one.

But that "Huomio" is used when a higher officer arrives to the scene, and as such whud be a good for the mod.

Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YNT4qZKyrA&feature=related and its at time 0:01-0:03
Excellent, Zsumi, thanks a lot! I'll use this - it fits very much.

Can't seem to download from the website with the link. Firefox says it cannot find the file!

Indeed - and the same goes for Corrections. I think it is one of the temporary Gamefront "blackouts", which happen every now and then.

I'd suggest to try again in the next hours.

I've had the same thing happen to some files I uploaded. It's apparently a Gamefront issue that crops up periodically - and once they're lost they don't seem to come back. I had to upload to a different host.

I really hope that's not the case, Epa. I'll wait still a couple of days and then, if the problem doesn't get solved by itself, reupload the file(s).

Same, it just doesn't work for some reason. Shame though, I was hoping to get this to fix my country colors to something nicer than the sexi colors for Smep, which IMO are terrible for France and Poland, simply because they reversed them.

yep i can't get the files either, it seems to be a problem on gamefronts side

I've just opened a ticket at Gamefront to know what's going on and whether the file might resume working.

Hopefully the problem will be fixed, or I'll get at least some info, in brief time. In the worst case, though, I'll reupload it - but just wait at least a couple of days, thanks! (meanwhile, I've also started to check the full compatibility of it with 1.08)

Thanks a lot Titan79! Hopefully they'll fix whatever snafu is affecting their file downloads soon.

I'm back to modding my customised icons for core and I have a question for my 2D graphic master Mr. Tan.

I open an existing icon file, I mod it to my preference, I click on save the file in .xcf format. I open that saved .xcf file and chose to export image as BMP. I am given two options while exporting:

Compatibility options: Do not write color space information (it is unchecked by default)
Advanced options: I can save in 16, 24 or 32 bit but I can't in 8 bits which seems to be the state of the original. I suppose I need to check the 16 bit variant (which has two variants: R5 G6 B5 or X1 R5 G5 B5 - which one shall I chose)?

Neither of the option allows me to save a file which would be of the same size as the original (also if I don't make any changes to the file and just save it in .xcf and then export it back to BMP).

What do you normally do Mr. tan when you tackle those things?

You're welcome! Yes, I too hope that the problem will be gone in a matter of days, if not hours.

First off - I suppose we're talking about GIMP here, don't we?

If so, the path I follow is rather simple. I open the file, mod it, then select "Save"; at that point, the program asks me if I want to export the file (to which one can only answer "yes", since otherwise it won't save it) and I'm done.

I don't know about those compatibility/advanced options... never seen them.

Edit:

Out of curiosity, may I ask you which kind of corrections to CORE icons are you endeavouring?

Certainly worth checking if you're an account holder. The stuff I put up is on limited hold anyway, so perhaps that's why they don't come back - they just expire.
Err, to be honest, I've created a personal account only yesterday. The file has been uploaded on 1/1/11 in anonymous mode - although I'm certain that it has been downloaded at least once in the last week (both the TP and Corrections), so the problem must lie elsewhere.

Waiting to know from Gamefront what's the deal; then, I'll report back as soon as possible - and, in any case, no later than some days!

Edit:

It seems like bestmajor's files are down either - and he's got an account on Gamefront, so in any case it's surely not a matter about seven days of inactivity -> files expired. The problem is related to their site; now, let's see how much will it take them to solve it (I guess it's simply due to periodical maintenance).

Yes that is the normal procedure but since I was getting dicrepancies in the amount of kbytes between the original and the modded icon I checked those options to see if something of use is there. Besides the Yes extract button you are given those two options there. Now I at least know you are not supposed to meddle with them if you haven't used those options. Problem is that those options don't allow me to chose the proper 8 bit option and the 16 bit is always overriden over the original 8 bit. I'll try reinstalling GIMP and see if that changes anything.

The ones I wasn't able to finish the last time when I went on vacations and those two are still hoi_counter_size and hoi_counter_strip.
I decided to get rid of the X's on hoi_counter_size and only use the two dots introduced by you moved one pixel to the right and one pixel more down in order to not overlap with the core unit type text on the lower right portion of the icon (which I also need to move one pixel more to the left). That's actually all one needs when it comes to determining the sizes of the army - no need to have two different marks for the same thing and since X's are not visible when in stack and dots are I decided to get rid of the X's. Onbe more reason for x's omission is that they overlap with some of the icons and it means less work work for me that way.

Ah and one more thing - when I checked the size of vanilla AoD hoi_counter_strip it had different kbytes size them vanilla CORE hoi_counter_strip. I thought the size ought to remain the same but this is not the case apparently.

I'll reinstall GIMP and then we'll see how it goes.

Thank you for helping me out Mr. Tan :D

Hmm, yes, I've tested your working counters for CORE and, despite their being a bit bigger than vanilla ones (Kb-wise) they do work indeed. That's odd, since every time I've made a 8-bit file bigger than its original size it wouldn't work (i.e. it showed like your not working counters, blurred and with a whiteish colour).

The fact that you create slightly bigger files makes me think that you don't actually save them in 8-bit mode; however, if they work nonetheless, all the better! (this reminds me a bit about Chuck Norris' feats, but this is another story :D ).

Ok, just in case it could help you, here's a detail of an operation of mine. Let's say I want to copy over those counters a little part of the image itself, thus in fact copying and pasting something over. I do it, then click on "File", then "Save". The program at this point tells me that the image has to be exported first, so I choose option b) -> "merge existing layers" (or sthg like that - I'm currently using it in Italian) and then click on "export file". Then, I choose again "File" and "Close". The file at this point is perfectly working!

Edit:

As I'm writing, the download links work again (hope they will even when someone actually tries to download ;) ).
