A PU with Castille. Remarkable! i think Portugal is too big for you to able to offer them vassalige. You've already wrapped up the Scots. You'll be able to annex them soon. Keep that BB low and you'll inherit Castille. Doesn't the silly game realize you want to conquer France, not make them your subjects? A nice conquer Paris and conquest of France missions would really ice the cake.
To get conquer paris mission, it is good to be at war with france, and than canceling current mission. Conquer Paris will be choosen as next! (thats why vasalige france was not so bad there :| )

noble republic can get PUs (I think), but the other bonus is that you choose leader, there's never regency council, and there's never low legitimacy (legitimacy is turned off)
Noble Republics cannot get into PUs but can use Royal Marriages to Diplovassalize Monarchies. Which is a big plus. While you are the senior partner in a PU you will not be able to change Gov'ts to Republic or Theocracy.

Great work so far. With your recent conquest I would add the released nations to your SOI and attempt to Diplo-vassalize. You have the ruler for it.
