A declaration of war implies that you view the other belligerent as a fully independent state. Do you wish to convey the message you are declaring war on yourself? That said, the people of Chile wish to extend congratulations to the Belgians for throwing off their bonds, and realizing their centuries-old dreams for independence. Hurrah for Belgium!

OOC: Not that anyone cares what Chile has to say lol

The Kingdom of Sardinia Piedmont supports the plight of Belgium. Is is not the right of these people to defend themselves from their foreign occupation?
I would like to point out to the king of Sardinia-Piedmont that we are not "foreigners" to the rebels, but all parts of the same countries. And again, we merely did not want to be accused of "sneak attacking" the Belgians by those people who seem to think they are an independent nation. We have never, will never, and do NOT recognize the Belgians as an independent state. They were rightfully granted to us by the Congress of Vienna, and are a rightful part of our nation. If Sardinia decided to rebel, would any of us contest your right to destroy the rebellion? Why should you do the same to us?

The Empire of the Great Qing condemns utterly this international intervention in the internal affairs of the Kingdom of the Dutch. It is not the right of any sovereign kingdom to suppress rebellion within its own territory? Is the authority of the King of the Dutch now beholden to the support and opposition of external agents? Are the peripheral states of Europe truly prepared to go to war over a strip of land less than half the size of Ninghsia? This war of words is feckless. We encourage the Belgian rebels to come to terms with the King of the Dutch, and so save themselves from extinction. Otherwise, we advise the peripheral states to stand down and leave these matters to be resolved by the conduct of the Dutch.

OOC: Good stuff.

The Kingdom of Prussia

The Kingdom of Prussia has considered the positions set forth by the United Kingdom and the Kingdom of the Netherlands at length. Following extensive deliberation by both ourselves and our royal ministers, the following decision has been rendered.

Prussia shall henceforth set aside its previous ultimatum and allow the United Kingdom to carry out whatever measures it considers necessary and proper to end this conflict in the Lowlands. Though we continue to oppose hasty headlong rushes into armed conflict, it is our belief that peace in Europe is best served by declaring ourselves neutral to both parties and thus preventing further continental strife.

~ Friedrich Wilhelm III, King of Prussia

The Tsar will not bow down to the British government and if we are required to act we will act. The United Kingdom is not the worlds authority and we are not his pawns. If he has a solution or an idea or can bring negotiations to the table we are open to his words. If all he is planning is to make threats and issue warnings then there will of course be consequences to such. If he has words of peace then we shall listen but if he expects us to follow dictates of his, the situation will not end so friendly.

To the Prussians we respect your decision and will accordingly adjust our position but we will not turn aside our earlier words. If our soldiers and ships are needed to protect Russian interests and the stability and balance of Europe then we will not fail to act.

We ask the Russians to reconsider their position. The United Kingdom is not making an ultimatum or a decree, he is merely stating his opinion, and pledging his support. Have you not done the same thing in regards to Belgium? We again ask you to reconsider, as this is not a war, but a crushing of a rebellion. We were unclear about the exact nature of the conflict, but this is an internal conflict. We again apologize for the unclear language that could easily be misconstrued.
In regards to Prussia, we thank you for rethinking your postion

This has been a Dutch national message.

OOC: why is everyone taking sides?

United States of America

Though it may not be the priority of American diplomacy overseas, particularly with our ambassadors in the countries of Europe, the following statement has been released by the American Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands:

"After considering all possible options and actions; after viewing, time and again, the geopolitical situation on the continent of Europe; after hearing of the Belgian revolt against the Dutch in the Low Countries; and after receiving the letters from each European ambassador of that particular nation's stance on the issue; the United States shall hereby support the Kingdom of the Netherlands' claim on the territory currently occupied by the pretender kingdom of Belgium in the Low Countries, also considering this rebellion as a grab for power, the claims of the 'Kingdom of Belgium' null, and the claims of the 'King' of Belgium illegitimate.

We hope the United States and the Netherlands may both work together as friends in the near and far future towards the common goal of prosperity and peace."

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland would like to clarify our previous statement. In it, we had wished to convey the message that no nations should rush to war to defend either the Dutch or the Rebellious Provinces. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland would like to stress that it has nothing wrong with diplomatic recognitions of the province, which we disagree with, but we do not agree that the nation of Europe, most specifically the French, should not rush to war over this internal issue. We maintain our view that the Southern Provinces of the Netherlands belong to the Netherlands, and stress that we shall not be directly supporting either side, and strongly urge all other nations to take this stance as well.

Furthermore, we will maintain that the sea lanes accessing the Kingdom of the Netherlands and her Southern Provinces shall remain open. We shall not hinder any shipping into or out of these areas.

This has been a message from His Majesty's Government.

Well that is a different story altogether. We of course do not want to see the French rush into any adventurous wars, especially not with lands bordering them. The key to the balance of Europe is avoiding any too strong a combination of lands and peoples in western or central Europe. We will consider that a likely error of translation or dispatch led to a misunderstanding and accept the Kings words.

Regarding the Netherlands itself, we do not consider this the same degree as crushing any random rebellion. If any instability of western Europe threatens the balance and security many fought and died for, we will act. The interests of the Russian Empire are first and foremost security of our people and prosperity for our lands. We do not see it necessary for the Netherlands to win this conflict for our interests to hold strong.

Sweden would like to know if our Danish friends would like to sell their colony of Accra for anything they desire except Skane or Gotland? Even a trade for our colony called St.Barts.

OOC: It's not looking so good for the Belgish rebels
OOC: meh they should be able to hold for 1 turn without difficulty and then it all loosens up.

Um...

I see the game is rather full at the moment, but nonetheless would it be possible to sign up for a country? I would be happy to take the Papacy, or if that is not acceptable, Bolivia.

If Belgium could sent me its orders today, I'll take a break from some writing I am doing to write a mini update.

Well, seeing as I have nothing to do...
