Barbarossa now in Sep 21 '41 (normal/normal).

Succesfully created a pocket in the center swamps, and even bigger one in the Odessa area next to Romanian border. Got Kiev without a shot and cutoff Krim from Odessa. Destroyed maybe 80 divisions in the pockets. Now I'm trying to create a big pocket in Smolensk. If it works and holds, I'll be very happy:

Heres the whole situation:

Finland got annexed straight from the winter war (never ended) btw, I was a little bit disappointed  Is that supposed to happen, or is it just a choice of the Soviet event that has a "chance"?

Next game I will try Japan.

So, as Germany, how do I build CAGS for carriers? And additional carriers?

You can build CAGs in the brigades build screen, and BB's and CV's are unlocked in 1939 when you get a choice of leaving the anglo-german (or what it's name is) naval treaty

The thing is though. If you look at the mods files, you can see this mod doesn't change the entire game. So it is quite useless to refer to things which WiF has absolutely no impact on.

I like the mod btw.

First off I would like to say thank you for such an awsome mod. I have had the chance to have one play through as Britain and a few small ones as smaller countries and currently as Germany(1939). Normally I don't play as Germany but this one seemed geared torwards Germany, I also plan on playing through as Italy and Japan. Two countries I really have a hard time with. Normally I like playing as the Soviet Union.

For my remarks I played the game on Normal/Normal.

First in the few games I have played I have not seen National Spain win, that is about 3 times for sure. Also Japan doesn't do much, does not make coastal beach heads or take Pacific Islands, and always creates the Nanjing puppet government.

Also as Britain I had the ability to ask Italy's AI to defend the homeland or send forces to help the Soviets. At first the events said nothing but around 1944 the event gave the option between the two. I asked USA to help with D-Day it was the only option. They took their sweet time. I actually started invading Italy but the US had about 40 units in Tunsia that they did not move on to the continent. Bloody Yanks, fornicating no doubt. When I hit the Gustav Line/Cassino the Germans showed up and had to retreat back to Sciliy. Eventually the US landed in Europe near Netherlands I believe around late 1946. Also I had about 20 str bombers, I couldn't do anything to the Germans IC. Mostly they got shot up. (Is 20 Str bombers too low?) One stack of four would do about 0.50 IC of damage per attack but that is the high amount usually lower, and only sent them in with at least 85-90 str/org. But no bombing my homeland, my interceptors and AA chewed everything up. Also my CV's seem to get nailed by naval bombers. Like I have a stack of 15+ plus naval units and my CV is the one that gets sunk, had the happen over four times. So I lose my ability to engage at range, very frustrating. Seemed my capital ships got sunk the most from naval bombers. Plus Germany had over 100 U-boats about 200 by wars end but wasn't using them. In death stacks of 20 to 30 sometimes. I was checking the intelligence to see what their manpower was and keeping tabs on their military and their focus. It seemed like they could have shut me down in North Africa if they wanted to but kept them in port. I also prevented Germany from getting Norway by a year by attacking their naval force going to Norway. What was interesting Japan seemed to have fun taking Male(island near Inda) three times, Kuwait, and landing on East and West Africa. But only could take the Dutch East Indies which I easily retook. In the other games they haven't done any of that. In general Japan does not seem to be doing too good. In the British game I nuked them twice and they surrendered to the US.

Now for the epic part which I absolutly loved. Germany in the first year easily pushed through Russia however their farthest extent looked to be the Ural mountins, so they had Leningrand and Moscow, but they were not able to take Stalingrad or Sevastopol. So the next 6 years was just endless fighting that saw Russia run out of manpower first! I was shocked when I looked at the intelligent report. To say the least I was beside myself. Germany though had 600 left. But then the US invanded XD I was thinking of how much fighting they had to do to go through all that manpower.

Though in a recent game as Romania I did almost nothing(acutally fell back) and Germany conquered them within a year. I used the freedom cheat so I could DoW on Bulgaria and Hungary =B I wanted an empire around the Black sea, but Turkey joined Germany which I haven't seen in any game before.

Also like somone else mentioned when I do the invasion of Poland I am told the gamble of only losing 25,000 men but afterwards it changes to 15,000. I can easily do it in 20 days however my losses are usually twice the original number easily.

I will post more after my current game and some thoughts and suggestions. Again I would like to thank you for such a great mod.

Germany lacks tech teams for researching any commando units, only Hermann Göring can research paratroopers, skill 4 (I guess that fair, actually) but no teams for mountaineers or marines (1941). What was the reason for removing the Jaeger school (or something like that ) that is in vanilla DH.

Actually germany has bad tech teams now compared to previous versions, but still it researches like hell. especially when using substancial investments (no comprehensive ones, as i try to avoid central planning).
Still Central planning is the worst doctrine, even as germany i go as far free market as possible which makes upgrades 19% cheaper (0.9*0.9)

not like in 1.02 where you didnt have to upgrade your inf at all, so great job there.

In the middle of a game as Russia, and boy is it on. Both Turkey and Finland have joined the axis, with the Germans (damn them lol) doing barb a full year ahead of schedule (which has left me short, to say the least). As a very long time player of HOI2 I am absolutely loving the desperate time I am having of it. Although technically a 'german/player mod' I can definitely recommend USSR as another option. Now, back to the front, as I try to keep the German's out of Moscow, in the first year of the invasion no less.

Well done on the mod.

Love reading such comments and happy to see you're enjoying the mod!

Loving the mod. I am in the end phases (I think) of Barbarossa and am encountering some problems. I am getting the following error message with any of my saves that are from the beginning of Barbarossa to the current in game date (July 29, 1940)

"ERROR : (Illegal model 8 for Waffen-SS Infantry) 'd_01 = {' Line = 74777 file = Mods\WIF 2\scenarios\save games\Germany_1940_July_29.eug "

I will attach the save if that helps you at all. I am using a little line tweak where it is possible to gain some extra resources by using the Money Devaluation command so absurd resource and IC values are 'correct' while I tweak my synthetic offmap resources. Thanks.

EDIT: It is a CTD

Not sure if this is WIF2 of vanilla, but noticed that the Soviet doctrine research ends in 1970 with an 80 GDE, while both the axis and the allies end with 110. What is the thought process behind this as a 20 difference in GDE seems huge.

Barbarossa is insane, I'm currently kicking some butt on the ground, but in the air.... I have 8 fighter squadrons, 16 interceptors and 16 tactical bombers, I neglected CAS. Soviets have 11 fighter squadrons 45 interceptors 20 CAS and 8 tactical bombers, annihilating my planes in sheer numbers. In my next game I now know that I need to build more fighters =)

Actually 110-80=30, so it's an even bigger difference.

I have the same problem, anybody?

Having problems with barbarossa, no matter what i'm doing the soviets start to push me back in august, and by then i have captured leningrad - a few provinces from moscow - sevastopol and destroyed roughly 110 soviet divisions. But by August my divisions ORG are to low to withstand a soviet 20+ divisions assault and the infrastructure to low to allow me to rest a few days and regain. A suggestion is to reduce the ORG loss when moving between provinces and/or give the german doctrines more org to start with.

Will start over this game and build more divisions for barbarossa, wasted to much IC on brigades and upgrades i think.
