After my 4th try as Germany (now even on easy difficulty) I give up. The mod in its current state doesn't appeal to me. Tried hard to love it, then to like it and it simply doesn't work out.
In my last attempt I invaded Russia in late May 1941. By September the Soviets had lost 3 million men (Pripyet and Odessa pockets). But somehow, they still have the same amount of units. My last action was a frustrating pocket in the Baltics which took forever.

Main problems:
- a.i. cheats with tons of free units
- Soviets always shred my airforce to pieces with stacks of 15 brand-smacking new interceptors. Come on! The Luftwaffe destroyed the Russian airforce easily in the first year. I have 8 wings of each fighter, interceptor, tac, cas (all latest models, doctrines, best leaders).
- mobilization events granting 7500 manpower at once? Probably vanilla related, no idea. Feels completely over the top.
- Germany constantly gets dissent events, taking weeks of consumer goods to deal with.
- Upgrading cost and time are through the roof. I can barely manage to build up historical Wehrmacht, let alone keep it up-to-date.

PS: I haven't tried vanilla yet, so I have no clue what's related to WiF and what's not. I only know that I didn't have the same problems in the original WiF for HoI2 on normal difficulty (this was on easy, as I said).

That's exactly the point of the mod: it's meant to be very hard to win as Germany, when DH vanilla was already almost as hard as the old WIF1.
Now, with all the feedbacks you gave me since 1.03 beta was out, I was able to eliminate some of these extra difficulties that were too harsh (esp. the free units events from the 'Barbarossa in Flames' mini-mod. Units will now come in smaller waves.).
I think the WIF2 version for 1.03 final will be more balanced and enjoyable for you.

Btw, I strongly advise you to try and destroy as many Soviet divisions as possible during the first weeks of the invasion, otherwise it's going to be a nightmare. You almost need to cut their army by 3 and get Moscow before winter if you want to stand a chance in 1942.

Imho you should aim for realism, not for challenge just for challenge's sake. That's what the difficulty settings are for. "Normal" difficulty should ideally reflect real history as close as possible.
 
Do the soviets get more bonus units in summer/early 1942? Just survived trough first winter and it was hellish indeed. Got almost smashed by the soviet winter offensive but managed to keep it together atleast for now. We will see if german summer offensive succeeds.

PS. Thank you for making this amazing mod really makes this game more enjoyable and i love the challenge it offers

It should be easy to reduce the number of free units at lower difficulty levels and increase it at higher difficulty levels.

Note that WiF2 is clearly NOT about a non-cheating AI playing with the player on the "even" field. Also, check RL Soviet casualties during 1941 and the number of troops that they mobilised in 1941-1942...

Playing 1.03, WIF2
After Liberating Egypt as Italy all my forces there are immediately redeployed to Rome.
This is annoying since now I have almost no troops left to defend it and the Brits can take Egypt back with ease.
How these troops can be redeployed from Africa to Rome is a mystery since there is no direct connection through allies/puppets over land.
Also I don`t see the need for this since I have military access in Egypt.
Any help is much appreciated !
 
my experience so far...i played 3 games as Germany...the first time France attacked me when i was fighting in Poland ... they reached Berlin in no time....the second time the Soviets attcked me when i was deep in France...they also reached Berlin in no time....the third time alla was going well until England declared war to Norway !!! and then landed with somewhat 20 divisions to Holland when i was still fighting in France...they too reached Berlin in no time...so...maybe i have forgotten how to play HOI or this mod is really hard....but...is nice and fun to play...keep up the good work Fernando....

and you should atack norway before the allies do
 
you are right about that i know...but...with these construction times its impossible to have so many divisions by 1939-1940 in order to invade poland-guard the western borders-invade norway-execute fall gelb-defeat france-secure the beaches!!! plus the borders with the ussr..i find it impossible...how do you guys do it?...i don't want to cheat the game by the way....
 
Playing as Germany is a fairly well balanced challenge. AI Germany, however, needs to be toned down. In my normal/normal game as SU, AI GER didn't attack me until Spring '42. I loaded to see their situation: they have 685 available IC (more than USA I note), 300 INF divisions, 50 MOT, 30 ARM, 50 GAR, and 20 HQ and with a few misc other division they have 468(!!!) total divisions, and the Luftwaffe is 96 wings. This not counting the ~125 divisions or so they are using from other Axis nations. It's almost comical: they are already out of oil because they get so many free units / get so much IC.

As player SU, they have about double my available IC, are attacking me with about triple the amount of divisions I have, have an air force triple the size of mine, have far superior doctrines, and all the bonuses that WIF gives the AI. I don't think it's going to end well. . .
 
Great Mod. Played until 1945 and it's a real pleasure.
Some observations:
- Polish campaign goals: This needs some looking into, as I failed the goals despite having actually achieved them. I was over in Poland in two weeks and immediately started a campaign against France, so I guess my losses in the west got counted in. Maybe counting the losses inflicted by Poland instead of losses suffered by Germany could be the way around this problem.
- In 1944/1945, as Japan and China Nanjing made no progress against the Nationalist China, I bought Macao from Portugal and then conquered the south / southwest China and annexed the Nationalists. However, I cannot release any puppets: No Guanxi clique, no Yunnan available. I'm not allied with Japan.
- Balkans: This is not the WIF issue, but maybe you could look into it and change it for your mod: After you conquer Balkans and release Croatia, the dissent there gets to zero and no partisans pop up. Historically, there was a very high partisan activity in the Croatian state, especially in Bosnia, as well as in Italian Dalmatia and Montenegro, forcing the Germans and Italians to permanently place some divisions there. Either high basic dissent or some event driven partisan uprisings in Croatia could be a good thing.
 
Great mod , but build and upgrade times are to long, once i mobilize i have over 7000 manpower but i cant use much of that by the time i lose to russia.Cant build historical anything as germany. Barborossa very very tough. Thanks
