All nineteen of the spotted mines have been destroyed by our anti-missile defenses.

We will now bring the rest of the fleet through, and head inward to examine the inner planets of this system.

Nice!

:D

Yeah... it was amazing that the first ship came out of jump shock and fired only fifteen seconds into the action, and a second one only five secomds later. I've seen ships stay in jump shock for two or three minutes before.

Surely that amazing performance is medal-worthy? ;)

Hmm, seems like it.
I suspect that most of the fleet stayed in jump shock for quite a bit longer though, so the jump shock advantage is still quite real.
Three beam salvoes of uncountered fire can do quite a bit of damage at point blank range ;-)

As for the rest of the system: I'm looking forward to it. Are there any class-2 or class-0 worlds in there?

Surely that means we need to upgrade our own jump point defenses too ?

Possibly... although the fact that our battle fleet is fully trained up to 100% fleet training likely played a role in the quick recovery.

One class-2 world, yes. A scout is already in-system. I had them waiting on the jump point while our fleet made the assault.

Aaaand... I've finished all 79 pages.

We... erm... won't get to exactly what directed me to this thread.

Any chance I can hop in as well?

(with one request: whatever I'm "created" as, could you make it a young-un? I'd like some chance to "come of age" over the course of this continuing saga ;p).

Well, new people are "auto generated" by the game based on the civilization Military Academy stuff. So you can get a young person but what their skills is kinda relevant to what role you want to be. Its possible to get more naval officers immediately but the quality of talent is pretty much below average.

Oh.

Given the ages that some people are listing as "started" at, I figured he was jsut taking up-to-then semi-successful NPCs and renaming them.

If I have to choose pre-emptively, a Naval Officer is my choice.

...

I would have said researcher, but I want something less life-threatening.

Sure. I'll add you the next time I've got the game open.

The mission to Luyten 347-14 is essentially over... our fleet remains in the system to guard our scouts as they examine the worlds. The only opposition encountered so far was that rather extensive minefield.

In other news, our Grav-Scouts have so far located another six exits from Known Space, all at the extreme outer perimeter of our empire. We will first finish the survey of all known systems before exploring these new wormholes.

Thanks. For a second there, I thought my appeareance in this thread managed to kill it ;p.

Taking a page from my Battlefield 1942 book, I'll volunteer for one of the lesser requested vehicles... Any of the Storm PD-frigates looking for a new officer?

And how's our overtly-brave "long range surveyor" doing?

The thread isn't dead, but I've slowed down somewhat. I couldn't keep up the hours-every-day pace, and I'm heavily involved with Internet Chess, too... I've gotten my rating up over 2100 for the first time in my life. Watch out, World Chess Champion Anand, I'm only seven hundred points behind you!

Our long-range surveyor successfully surveyed both of the "distant binary" systems, and is now partying on Earth, awaiting the discovery of another awkward system like those two.

Congrats :)

I knew it. My mere appearance has killed yet another thing.

And people ask me why I don't have a G/F, pets, or plants. I simply can't afford the mortuary bills.

Was it you or me?
