I'm happy to announce the creation of a portal for the wikis I currently host, namely the Crusader Kings II Wiki, the Europa Universalis 4 Wiki, and the Victoria 2 Wiki.
This wiki network will serve as a replacement for Paradoxian, seeing as Paradoxian is now long dead, with nearly every wiki on it no longer being maintained due to registration being closed.

With the creation of this wiki network I hope to make it easier for people to find the information they need about Paradox grand strategy games, and I hope to further expand and improve upon the wikis in the future.

Well, I'm quite surprized to don't see any reaction here since a few hours. So I permit myself to say it: thanks for all of that!

I suppose that's quite a lot of heavy work, specially when so much patches are released, like that's currently the case with CK2.

But I have to say that even if I can't contribute (see my signature...), even if I don't say it everyday everywhere, I usually find a solution on the wikis that permit to enjoy these games still a little more than expected.

So, once again: thanks for the work, to you and all contributors!

It is good to seem them coming together under one banner. Is there perhaps some way of importing the information from the Paradoxian wikis like the Eu3 one?

That's pretty much how the Vic2 wiki became what it is today; one guy (Niptium) started a new wiki independently since the Paradoxian one was dead. Over the course of a few weeks some pages were manually carried over, and several new pages were created.
Then at that point I offered to host it, and everything from there was imported onto my server. As the wiki was pretty small at that point, that didn't take long; just a couple of hours or so.
5 days after that again, everything from Paradoxian's Vic2 wiki was imported. And thus ends the importing story.
After that it's just been a lot of work to better organize the articles, and slowly get them up to date (a process that is still going on).

As to expanding further... lets just say I've got a few things in the works.

Good job guys.

I can't say enough how much I apreciate your work. I found a bug on the frontpage in The newest Opera, Chrome and Firefox but not in Internet Explorer.

I tried to figure it out and it seems that you have to remove this line from #footer in your front.css file:

position: absolute;

or

bottom: 0;

or maybe both. Having both there seems to screw with the browsers in any scenario I try.

The position: absolute; bit is what keeps (or should keep it) at the very bottom.

Only in Internet Explorer. :/
I've updated it with a different CSS solution that should work in all major browsers.

Though the old one did work for me in Firefox. This new solution seems a bit better though as it doesn't use absolute positioning at all.

Running an experiment on the site now.
Half of all visitors will visit a page with the "Here you will find fan-made wikis for grand strategy games created by Paradox Development Studio:" line removed, while the other half will visit a page with it.
Whichever version results in the highest percentage of people going to one or more of the wikis will be kept.

Here's the two versions side by side.

Just want to say, thanks a lot for doing this, I know new players will really appreciate it. The various wikis were a large part of how I learned to play the various paradox games.

My experiment for the Paradox Wikis layout has finally concluded, after 15 days of half of all visitors being redirected to the edited design.

In the end there was no statistically significant difference in click-through rates.
As such I've gone with the design I personally prefer, the minimalist one.

Any further ideas for improving the Paradox Wikis page would be appreciated.

Boredom set in, so I decided to make some graphs of how many edits different people have done on the wikis.
So here's graphs for all four wikis based on the # of edits people have made in the last 30 days. There's also a graph of all 4 wikis combined.

In the case of the HoI3 wiki I'm rather overrepresented though due to getting my number incremented for every single page imported from the Paradoxian wiki, which was about a thousand or so total.

One thing, it'd be great if the wikis were more visually themed towards their game. I'm a sucker for immersion, even in information-gathering outside the software.

If I had more time over summer, I'd myself volunteer!

The wikis will be moved over to a better server tonight.
This may cause some downtime, in which case you have my apologies. The move should be entirely finished within a few hours of starting though, so the worst case scenario is a few hours of downtime.

I'm for the most part opposed to most such things, as it often gets in the way of the information.
If you've got any suggestions that won't get in the way of the info I'll be happy to hear them.

I thoroughly disagree; if you find it gets in the way of the information, then you've been implementing/have seen a poor example of design in action. Even just the subtle use of the relevant wiki logo's/game's colours would be good, without complicating things.

It of course depends on implementation.
The CKII Wikia would be an example of where it gets in the way of the information, most notably by making the content much narrower.

Which is why I'm happy to hear any ideas you've got that don't affect the content itself ;)

This weekend I'll be moving all my wikis over to a new server.
I hope to do this without causing any downtime, but editing and registrations will be disabled when I start the move. They'll be enabled on the new server once everything has been carried over, so as the new IP address propagates editing and registering will once more be possible.
I will be starting the migration on Friday afternoon. I expect the process to take several hours.
