mouse and cursor not correctly aligned - mac version

Hello there,

Ive just loaded up the game for the first time from steam and running this on a Macbook Pro.
When I hover the cursor over an area of the screen it seems to highlight a different area to the one Im pointing at.

The game highlights an area approx one and a half inches below where the mouse cursor is showing on the screen and slightly to the left too.

This is making the game unplayable.

How do I resolve this?

p.s. Im very new t using a mac - so any instructions need to be mac specific and also clear for a novice to follow

thanks in advance,
Tippster

What exact Mac and OS X versions please?

Use the Steam client Verify option, run that until it finds nothing to fix.

Same problem here when I play in full-screen on my mac.

I have a late 2009 iMac with OS X 10.8.2.

Can you try updating to 10.8.4? It's free to do so, and maybe there are newer and better video drivers in it.

When I had the same problem (on Linux, after replacing my monitor), it was caused by the screen resolution in settings.txt. I suggest looking up your monitor's resolution in System Preferences, under Displays, and making sure this matches the size settings in ~/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II/settings.txt. For example, if the resolution is 1920x1080, make sure settings.txt says:
Code:
graphics=
{
	size=
	{
		x=1920
		y=1080
	}
Hope this helps.

I already updated my Mac so thats not it. Sometimes it has worked fine, but now its been days and I can't play because of the cursor thing - Weher is the client verify option you suggest on STEAM? Thanks

In your Steam library right-click on CK2 and select properties, and go to the local files tab. There's an option there Verify Game Cache Files, which checks everything that should have been downloaded from Steam has been. Run it until it finds nothing to fix.

Your Mac is on OS X 10.8.4 now, is that right?

I just noticed you say that this doesn't always happen. That is seriously weird. For the record I play on my new iMac just fine with no problems like this. Did you try the screen changes from post #5 above, which helped that user?

Thank you so much Ibrey - I checked system pref like you suggested but the closest one is 1344x840, there is no 1360 768 like the CC file shows. Also, the game has sometimes worked perfectly, when I had this problem Id just close the game and reopen it and sometimes it would work, but now its been days and no matter how many times I close and reopen, the cursor is off in exactly the same way as the other two people that described this problem - sigh, thanks for the help all the same :eek:)

Thank you for your suggestion, I did what you said, with the Cache on STREAM - It didnt do anything. Youre right, I apologize for saying Paradox passed the buck. However, your suggestion was directed to the STREAM cache, which apparently is working just fine. I must say though, quite frankly, there should be a "contact us" link directly to Paradox to deal with such issues instead of an open community post to leave it to other players instead of Paradox itself to solve tech problems. Anyway, here I have STREAM's response, saying its a Paradox issue:

Hello,

A staff member has replied to your question:

Hello Luis,

The error lies with the game, and the solution you read simply ensures that none of the game files are corrupted.

Think of Steam as the installer you run before the game - it is not an active participant when playing the game except if you use the Steam Community in-game overlay.

Steam Support will not be able to assist you further with this issue. Please contact Paradox Support for further assistance.

FYI the Paradox model is that we volunteers here handle most "tech support" issues (that is, not game bugs). They simply do not have the resources to run a tech support department which would need dozens of people on 24-hour shifts; last I heard their tech support dept (paradox.zendesk.com) was 2 or 3 guys. Feel free to log a ticket with them, but as this is such a rare issue I rather doubt they'll have an instant solution for you.

Anyway.
Of the other 3 people having this problem in this thread, two (one of which has a PC not a Mac) are now fixed. We've never heard back from the OP so we don't know whether he's working now or not. That just leaves you. We routinely get people to verify the Steam cache for almost every problem; it only takes a few minutes to run and it gives us a fair reassurance that the game files are all present and not corrupt (as Steam themselves have now told you).

In post #10 you mention looking at the system preferences and that it says 1344x840. What does it say in the game's Video Options, what is it set to there? What about in settings.txt , what are X and Y in that file please?

And can you specifically confirm you are now on OS X 10.8.4 please?

I would expect this problem to be resolution related.

Please follow Andrew's advice above. Also, you could try changing between windowed/fullscreen mode. If you have another mouse, maybe that could be worth trying out too?

TO ANDREW-T:
Thank you - FYI: Yes, as you can read on the post exactly above my reply to you, I replied to Ibrey regarding the resolution suggestion. Yes, I am indeed running OS X 10.8.4 - Im really going crazy here, where can one submit a "ticket" to tech as you say?
Thank you so much

http://paradox.zendesk.com <- Ticket

I'm not sure you will be able to get much help there though. I will try to get hold of the guys making our Mac ports to see if they have any advice.

To BJORNB:
Oh thank you so much - I really dont know what else to do. In reply to your suggestion, yes, I tried the resolution
thing but there is no exact match - I did however change the resolution to the closest one but it didnt change things.
As I mentioned, it HAS worked just fine before. Sometimes it didnt so Id just "quit" the game from STEAM and
reconnect and the problem usually solved itself so I dont think the resolution is the issue given that it has worked
fine as is.
The cursor alignment is just fine everywhere else, even on the STEAM window, but once the game is loaded the
cursor shifts. Now no matter how many times I "quit" the game and then reload the game, everything is fine until
the game is actually loaded.
Thank you for the link

Okay, what happens if you go to "Documents" -> "Paradox Interactive" -> "CK2" and open "settings.txt" using your text editor. There you change the top x and y values for resolution to x=1360 and y=768?

Apologies if this was already suggested.

Sorry if this has absolutely nothing do to with the problem... but recently I've discovered that an issue I had with my mouse and a game running on Steam (for the record, not a Paradox one) has actually been solved by uninstalling the device's software.

Long story short: one of my mouse's side buttons, set to perform a peculiar action in-game, gave a totally different response when clicked. I just uninstalled Logitech Setpoint drivers, leaving just the standard Win7 ones, and magically the button resumed working as intended.

I know it might be another kettle of fish in relation to the problem lcdhype is experiencing, but maybe this report can be helpful to him - or at least I hope so.

Thanks for the post but these folks' problem is on Macs, and with them you can't uninstall individual drivers in the same way you can on Windows.
