Recently I've been reading Isaac Asimov's Foundation books and while I did it I kept thinking about CK2 given that Asimov based his stories off Roman and middle age history it's not surprising that it made me think about crusader kings. Also I've also seen people talk about Dune on the Ck2 forum. Getting to my point, it would be awesome if Paradox would make a "feudalism in space" game like Crusader kings 2 crossed with Spore's galactic stage. If such a game already exist could someone point me in right direction?

A very, very old game called "Emperor of the Fading Suns" can still be found on abandonware sites, but yes, it would be awesome if Paradox did a CK2-type-game in space.

I think PDS would have to embrace the concept of 3D battles if they wanted to put strategy into space... And Johan will sooner compromise on beards than on 3D battles. ;-)'

Other than that, both are great series and would serve well for a setting (or an inspiration) for a feudal space strategy game. Someone should totally do it.

They don't make HOI3 into an air sim because it has air-combat in it, and releasing CK2 did not mean having a medieval FPS section, so why would a space empire game need 3d space combat?

+1

Mostly because I want to get to found the Second Galactic Empire which the series completely abandoned after the (amazing!!!) first three books in favor of a galactic road trip

THey didnt abandon the concept at all, they just explored if it really was the best idea for the galaxy.

What I meant was that they never got to it though. They introduced different ideas for the future galactic society building up to conflict... and then they never reach the conclusion when we find out what happens.

I've been thinking (and posting) the same thing, but at least Johan has said "fuck no" to making a Dune game. Don't know about foundation. I asked if there could be a game based on EotFS and got a no, but there hasn't been a definitive no on space grand strategy at least!

Except there isn't one in the pipeline, and the pipeline is 5 years so...

When was that said?

EDIT: All I've seen is that they're not making a space 4x game which doesn't rule out space grand strategy since that's not the same.

Wishful thinking right here. If they really said 'no space 4x', then they mean no space grand strategy - either that or they're just playing with us.

They have been known to play with us around announcement time before...

I think Paradox have the rights to Mutant. If they do they need to do something with it.

They do? That was a fun RPG. Not sure how it would realistically translate into grand strategy though, but it'd be cool if they pulled it off.

I agree. This mostly has to do with Asimov hating the series because he knew how it was going to turn out. Though he came up with the mule, I'm sure he could have thrown some more monkey wrenches into the formula.
