Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not possible.

The world map is a feature of the Clausewitz engine used by EU3, while Darkest Hour uses the older Europa engine.

I have recently started playing againt with 1.3 and noticed something happening which I wonder is because of the patch, or something that could have happened before but didn't in my games.

Playing as the Sovs and having started three games (don't ask about 1 and 2, they went badly!) I have found that Germany starts the war in June 1939 instead of September 1939 which I had always assumed to be a sort of 'hard coded' date for invasion of Poland. Now I'm not complaining about things going a bit ahistorical, but I'm wondering if this is a new thing for patch 1.3, and what triggers are needed for Germany to do this. The difficulty for me (in my games 1 and 2) is that having taken Poland early, the whole German timetable was then shifted up, meaning France fell, then Yugoslavia, then Greece and in both games the declaration of war (by Italy as it happens) occurred just after Greece fell - and well before my Soviet defences were ready! (Much of my army was still in Finland, which I usually take my time over to increase the experience of the best commanders - does anyone else do that?)

Indeed, what are the German conditions for declaring war on the Sovs? In my first two games my army building programme had not matured properly and the division ratio was more in Germany's favour than other games I've played. So does it consider relative army strength? In the third game which I'm still playing the war again started in June 1939 but I built a *lot* more infantry and Germany has not declared by May 1941.

The possibility of war starting early has been there since 1.00.

Germany must not be involved in wars with Greece, Yugoslavia and Norway (not 100% sure on this one) before declaring war on SU. And yes, there is also a condition on army strenght (at least 35% of SU's forces IIRC). War can happen also later than May 1941.

My units have less than 100 strenght and I can reinforce them by using manpower and IC. But, also I can make their strength 100 with mobilization decision in war. If I reinforce them by using MP and IC instead of mobilization decision, would I have waste MP and IC? Or, will those wasted IC and MP come back to me when I mobilize the army?

the same amount of manpower is used either way.
if you reinforce beforehand, not only will use waste IC, you will have to waste MORE IC supplying the larger amount of troops with more supplies in the meantime.
plus if you use up all of your pre-war MP reinforcing you will no longer be able to build divisions/brigades, because you have no MP.

does reinforcement via event advance troop upgrades?
if not, thats probably the only advantage of early reinforcement.

Tl, DR.
do not reinforce your units before mobilizing

Thanks for that reply. I suppose it's just random that in my three games since I upgraded they all started in June! Also Germany did not declare war in May 1941... I had to declare war on them in August. Not that I wouldn't have used the extra time, but it just didn't seem right.

Edit: sorry I think I misread. Do you mean that the whole war can't happen later than May 1941, or the German attack on the Soviet Union? Of course being a Soviet my view of "the war" is that it does not begin until the start of the Great Patriotic War, not the regional conflict in Western Europe that preceded it ;-)

Interested by the feature that Soviet IC is boosted after 15% of provinces are lost (sorry not near the game at the moment so can't remember the exact event name).

Wondering how this is calculated, firstly is it possible to give an idea about how much of the Soviet Union is covered by 15% (I know this is difficult); and secondly I assume this is core provinces only and not extra bits of the Soviet Union that might previously have been temporarily part of Poland and Finland etc?

In my game I've lost everything up to the Don. Since the provinces are probably smaller in the west of the soviet union than centrally and east, I would have thought that would be a fairly sizeable percentage, but it appears not 15%, but I don't really want to count all of them!

I think you need to loose everything up to the volga, at least.

Air unit efficiency

Sorry to monopolise the questions but I have another two questions I'm afraid.

1. How is air unit organisation determined? I flew three air unit into a province with a "2" airbase in it prior to my 1944 spring offensive. The fighters and tac bombers recovered org after arrival and were able to start their missions as planned. However my planned airborne assault didn't happen as the unit of three transports lost efficiency after arrival, dropping to zero quite quickly. Clearly I'm doing something wrong here, but it is not something I particularly remember from playing the game a while back. The weather is poor by the way, muddy on the ground.

2. I have a problem with the officer list and wondering if it is a known problem and if there is any workround. Basically when I open the list everything slows to glacial pace and the cursor jumps at the shortest movement - it is just about possible to get to the 'back' button and get back to the other screens which appear normal. I think once or twice something similar has happened to the game in general, but I've been able to save it and when reloaded it's fine. With this problem it stays with the game after a save.

1. Organisation regain depends on Morale (higher the better; if it is too low or on province with low infrastructure there could be organisation loss instead of increase per day).

2. Are you using the latest patch (1.03)? I remember a bug like that reported in older game versions, but IIRC it is fixed by now.

Hi Martin

Thanks for the responses. To Q2, I certainly have 1.03 running. Will be happy to send a save game file if it helps.

Edit: going by your comment about 1.03 resolving a similar issue I reinstalled 1.03 and it cleared the problem up. Thanks!

Grant Independence to the People's Republic of Poland

Fired for me a month or two after Germany defeated as the Sovs. Nice event. Bad execution! Gave every Soviet unit on what became Polish soil to Poland! Could have been one or two garrison units (fair enough) but in my case this included more than half of the Soviet Union's armoured forces! Needless to say had to replay the previous 22 days.

Are you sure you're using DH 1.03? That bug existed in pre-1.03 versions, but is fixed for sure in 1.03:

USSR.txt, event 2007106 ("Former Polish provinces integrated into Soviet Union"), second action:

command = { type = independence which = U32 value = 1}

This is the command format:

type = independence which = [country tag] value = [0/1] when = [0/1] # Country [tag] gains independence. value: [0]-units in the area change allegiance, [1]-they don't. When 0=normal, 1=force them to be democratic

Thanks again for the response Martin. I believe I had 1.03 running, but I did reinstall it anyway as mentioned for my leader bug, and it did correct that. However I can't comment on whether it fixed the Polish independence problem as I made aboslutely sure I had no units in Poland 'just in case' when it fired again.

EXTRA

Sorry one more I'm afraid. Does the 1939 light armoured division upgrade to the 1939 medium armoured division - or does it only go to the 1944 light armoured div?

In 1.03, you can change upgrade paths, so a light armoured division can be upgraded to the latest medium armored division.

Will there be another patch for Darkest Hour after 1.03?
Yes.

Also starting as Japan 1914, will I eventually get the Japan WW2 events?
No, unless you use the AAR mod. Check Mods section.
