Well when they are bi-directional, you can still build two of them there if you want and they can be going any directions you want. The one-vehicle only at one time is a bit of a limitation of bi-directional tracks. I guess to mitigate that problem they will have to be able to come back much faster.

So I bought it and I am pleasantly surprised. These things are fast! I was expecting something closer to tram speeds. I still think it's too expensive considering there isn't any customization as with the metros.

I also like the restriction that they cannot go underground or at ground level. I haven't had a chance to test more and make tunnels due to work, so if someone here has tried to make tunnels with these and succeeded, please let me know!

I was also a bit surprised at the high speed.
I would've liked to build them underground though, but I guess that could undermine the metro in some way.

So passengers are going to have to stand around, waiting for the train to return to point A before they can be picked up? Why doesn't it pick them up on the way back?

It can IF you want the line to be the "loop-around" style where the line starts in one direction and then continues in the opposite direction. Bi-directional tracks are actually lot more efficient and space-saving in servicing those lines. I covered that already in my first post in this thread. But since you are addressing the issue of the bi-directional tracks only allow one vehicle travelling on it at any given time and being slow so I thought I mention the fact that in case the line is one direction only, the monorail will be able to come back lot faster because there is no stops coming back and the cims will not be waiting for too long.

Anyway I just think bi-directional monorail tracks is interesting and could be a neat feature to have.

I'm sorry none of you have convinced me, I still think that monorails are horrible! As for bi-directional tracks, forget it there's not a snowball's chance in hell of CO doing them.
I'm still waiting for a fix for the 1.5.0 disaster! So please don't ask them for anything else till they've fixed it.

I have found a UK website specifically dealing with the pros and cons of monorails, I think may be of interest: http://www.transportpolicy.org.uk/Future/Monorails/Monorails.htm
PS: This gives the actual sizes of various systems running beams. Looks like the manufacturers have scored an 'own goal' by not standardizing their systems. This is similar to early railways that did not use a standardized track gauge.
