those warmongers of the SOviet Union. you should be ready... the Empire of Japan doesn´t war, but it's ready for it! :p

The CTF composed only of CVs is brand new with latest techs and when naval battle emerges between any of my SAGs I try to support it with CAGs operating from adjacent sea zone. This helps a lot. I am also rotating fleets so usually after first battle IJN fleet goes to Singapore for repairs so each time a naval battle occurs IJN is completely repaired and fully organized.

Regarding sinking modern RN carrier: all fleets apart from the one where Akagi and Kaga are (the old CTF) have speed 32 km/h and higher, if the RN was accompanied by some slower screens that would explain destruction of that carrier.
Most of the ships sunk were obsolete ones compared to Yamato or new carrier and few posts above Bromgev explained how old and new ships are modded in HPP - most of these WW1 scraps are easily outranged by Yamato which is at the moment most modern ship on the planet.
Thanks a lot for the detailed reply.
I have another question, though. What is going on with the generic "support regiment"? I thought HPP had the usual ART, AT, AA brigades. Or am i terribly wrong? Did they merge ART, AT, AA to a generic "support regiment"?

Yes they did. It is much more historical and also it makes much more sense.

Does anyone care to explain why? If this is far too off topic, just don't answer :)

The only army that used ART in such extreme concentration as it is depicted by those brigades was the russians i believe. Also if they had artillery support that those divisions obviously also had AT weapons as well as some AA. It was always a mixed thing.

Also this does help AI a lot as it's less complicated for the AI to use right divisions as it does not get confused by so many units like in e.g. BlackICE - afaik this was also one of the reasons why the ART, AA and AT brigades were merged into support regiment. But Karaya already explained historical background.

I would like to focus next update mostly on the state of the Empire (research, production etc.), so there will be no gameplay. Are there any particular things you would like to see?

plans for the IJA case it comes an open war with the Soviet bear

At the moment I have no real plans against war with Soviets as in the Europe with France has not yet been defeated. I have however established 2nd defensive line in Manchuria consisting of Manchuko expeditionary forces.

A carrier in 300 days? Just how strong are those naval influence modifiers?

And (thinking of the Soviet Union) have you had the Khalkhin Gol incident yet?

It's 25% naval build speed and with high practicals I was able to do it.

Khalkhin Gol has not fired yet.

I was more thinking of the fleet CVs.

Good question, sorry for jumping into the middle of the AAR but as I went to see if I could find the info myself, might as well share it I thought.
Thanks to the wonders of the modern internet, I give you:

USS Enterprise (CV):

Laid down: 16 July 1934
Launched: 3 October 1936
Commissioned: 12 May 1938

USS Hornet (CV):

Laid down: 3 August 1942
Launched: 30 August 1943
Commissioned: 29 November 1943

USS Independence (CVL):

Laid down: 1 May 1941
Launched: 22 August 1942
Commissioned: 14 January 1943

USS Bataan (CVL):

Laid down: 31 August 1942
Launched: 1 August 1943
Commissioned: 17 November 1943

The increase in construction speed of CVL is small, but remember the time gap there is much smaller, I couldn't quickly find pre-war CVL, so the economy went into high gear during Independence' construction, while Enterprise was build entirely in peacetime.

14. Report on the state of the Empire

You can see that with exception of Australia, which is now Japanese puppet, the factions are still pretty historical.

Distribution of the IC. Main priority is to keep upgrades, reinforcement and production at 100% and all spare IC is dedicated to the supply production (the game has not yet recalculated supply needs when I was taking screenshot, but around 40IC to supplies keeps my supplies stocks at green levels).
I am running deficits in every resource but this will get fixed soon as I have storing problems modifier for each of them.

I am extensively building IC as IC is last thing which prevents me acquiring great power status (I need 200 IC for this) and radars which will be installed at various Pacific islands prior to strike at Pearl Harbor. I am thinking whether I should continue with building additional IC after 200 IC threshold has been been reached as additional IC is always welcome and who knows, maybe one day I will be able to become superpower.
Rest of IC used for production is used for finishing new CTF and I am also building some additional convoys as new destinations for my convoys are rapidly appearing.

Most of leadership is used for research and a bit is also allocated to the spies as Japan has a plenty of officers which were trained in inter-war period.

q8dv.jpg

Mostly infantry and support brigade techs are being researched at the moment alongside with crucial naval techs and doctrines.

w3x9.jpg

You can see that infantry techs are already up to date or being researched.

3gv2.jpg

Armoured techs are something different. Japan is severely lagging there but even these techs were sufficient to prove useful in China and now in India.

oo70.jpg

Destroyer and cruiser techs are the most modern in the world. Submarines are not being researched at all as hiding in the depths is not the way of the warrior.

zqk9.jpg

Important capital ships techs are being researched. I've decided to forgo battlecruisers and light carriers and instead I am focusing on real queens of the seas - battleships and carriers.

x633.jpg

Some bomber techs are year behind but I am trying to keep the as up to date as possible while focusing on more important techs like naval and infantry ones. Although Japanese bomber forces are rather small they're doing quite a good job.

9hjn.jpg

Same as for bombers applies for fighters. In the Asian theater most common air battles are between carrier air groups and not between conventional aircraft.

05wv.jpg

Industrial techs are absolute priority number one and you can see that all tech are already up to date.

hyqy.jpg

Infantry doctrines are also up to date. I've decided to invest one point to schwerpunkt doctrine if I ever attack US mainland to increase efficiency of armour. As infantry doctrine I stick to infiltration doctrine as IJA is fighting in the most hostile areas on the planet.

hfxv.jpg

Japan begins with human wave as operational doctrine but this one does not suit my gameplay style well so I've taken one point in blitzkrieg to speed up things in China and then in superior firepower to keep my support brigades on par with their European counterpart (this will come handy when it will come to war with Soviets).

qo9v.jpg

In the field of naval doctrines I am focusing mainly on crew training and on sealane control doctrine and on force projection as well. These are kept up to date to increase efficiency of Imperial Japanese Navy.

b582.jpg

Air crew training tech are kept up to date as well with army aviation (this helped a lot in China), fighter defense and naval aviation (for obvious purposes).

Cabinet has not changed much from the beginning of the game. Ruling party, Toseiha, is popular amongst the people of Japan and small taxes are making people happy (money are gained by other means and Japan has need for importing goods as it receives resources from its puppets and has huge reserves).

Only spy missions undertaken are domestic ones and spies are focusing mainly on raising national unity to compensate occasional allied raid on supply convoys. Also 95% national unity is not far to be reached and this will provide higher level of 'Nation united' modifier.

situation looks good, I think you'll be ready when the Western Juggernauth awakes

I miss light cruisers / destroyers in the production queue.

Construction of new cruisers for the new CTF is already finished and I have some spare to replace loses.
