Hello everyone, I bought this game and I'm quite happy with it. I was wondering whether you can see somewhere statistics concerning single stops or lines. I would like to know whether a busline I have made is used by more people in the morning, evening etc, so I would add more busses and change the timetable is required. Is there anyway we could see this information without looking at the bustraffic happening in game?

Also it would be nice if we could see on which part of a line most busses are heavily occupied/crowded so I could design a new line on those parts without having the put more busses on the entire line. Is this in anyway possible, like in Cities XL for example where you can see the occupation of the bus in which part of a line?

Unfortunately there is no point to designing a line like you want as the CiMs would randomly pick a line instead of taking the next available. Short lines, express lines, etc are pointless despite the fact that CO says the AI pathfinding system works as planned.

Really? So if two bus lines overlap for awhile and both would do for a cim it will never on purpose take the first to arrive, but just either one of the two? Well, that's bad. Will they improve that still?

However, I still would like to be able to see more details for the line in terms of occupation during the day to adjust the timetable.

Not only will the CIMs choose the randomly picked one, they will usually get off the bus on the next stop and change to another line for no reason. They can do this again for a few times later. Sometimes (unless you use a trick I discovered) CIMs will leave metro to take a bus on a parallel, local line (which is of course incapable of transporting as many passengers). Also, you cannot create day-only, night-only or weekend-only lines as CIMs don't care about schedules and will for example wait for a night line in the middle of the day (ignoring number of day lines passing by), get angry red face and finally go there on foot.

Will they improve that still?
Unfortunately, no. They must have read a number of comments criticizing the current pathfinding system but they claim it works as designed and consequently ignore all further pleas for improving it. Probably because pathfinding is complicated and improving it would require skills they don't have or they don't have resources to improve it. There was a lot of complaints and frustrations on this forum but they were not met with any CO response and will probably never be taken care of...

However, I still would like to be able to see more details for the line in terms of occupation during the day to adjust the timetable.

Me as well, but there are no statistics for a particular line. The only thing you can do is enter into line window and see how much profit it is making per day thus understanding if it is popular or not. You can also watch statistics for particular stops of this line in the particular stop's window. I myself simply watch the line at certain times and see if the buses are empty, full or overcrowded and using this information I change the timetable or the size of vehicles. It works quite well if you get accustomed to it.

I disagree. You can build for example express lines with metro and local lines with bus and with certain rules the CIMs will use this as planned. This is of course done by using some tricks to "fool" the bugs CO left us (and I agree with kensternation that pathfinding does not work as advertised) but if you use them CIMs will adapt and make quite smart decisions. The tricks are in this post I wrote some time ago: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...sed-on-my-experiences&p=16894748#post16894748 I hope it helps.

For the pathfinding system, we are discussing a lot in the german forum about the ideal pathfinding. All in all the most suggested solution is a pathfinding system without a hard catchment area for the stops, and the CiMs decide by travelling time if the public transport is useful or not.

Well said.

On this note, I've always thought the new SimCity had quite a good idea for stop catchment area - being a linear distance along the road from the stop rather than a vague circle around the stop. This would eliminate cases where a Cim will decide to walk around an entire city block to reach the stop just because his house is just within the edge of the ring.
