Hi,
I was curious as to if paradox had considered making a strategy game that was still somewhat realistic but ahistorical. I didn't get an answer in the ask us anything thread so I figured I'd ask the community what they think of it?

I won't attempt to lay out all the pro's and con's as I see them. There are obviously lots. Probably even lots that I don't see and I don't want to lecture rather I want to learn. So I will just state some of the main benefits I can see because I want to counter an expected knee jerk rejection and keep the idea open for thought.

So the main benefits as I see it would be freedom to design the game without the limitations of history (atleast most because it would still need some if it were to be "somewhat realistic"). This could mean many things, from mismatches in the dates certain technologies became available and interesting what if scenarios to completely uninhibited lore. Game balancing would also be much easier but the main thing I want to stress is freedom to design the game the way they wanted it without needing to be historically relevant. That's all I want to stress before you tell me if you wouldn't even look at such a game, that you'd be curious or that you'd even excited. Thanks in advance to all those who choose to share your thoughts.

Could be fun. I hope that there would only be one world and no random generation (world 2 dlc comfirmed) as the world will then be designed better. Would buy unless it looks bad.

I've always wanted a Fantasy Universalis (fantasy strategy game with Clautswitz engine like EU4, with random world generation, races, fantasy units, etc).

Middle Earth?

Nah, because then they would have to pay royalties. Just a randomly generated fantasy world, with the Clautswitz engine like EU4. More like Dominions.

I'm pretty sure most LOTR fans would jump at the chance of a well produced PC game. There's an echoing lack of them for the series.

I'm sure, but that's more in the realm of modders. See the Game of Thrones mod for CK2. Since it's a mod, Paradox doesn't have to pay royalties since they're not making money off it (indirectly I'm sure people have bought the game only for the mod, but that's another matter). I'd rather they spent the money in making a brand new game and modifying the engine for it.

i would like something like this. they could create a fictional planet r even galaxy (called paradox ;) ) and create fictional empires and people and use different game elements from diffrent paradox titles. if done right it could be very fun.

Paradox sci-fi/fantasy strategy game, maybe a 4X is what I would look forward to. Although we do have Runemaster in the works, which appeared to be a Tactical RPG.

I would rather like a sci-fi one. They could explore further OP mechanism and politic from Victoria III with more modern economic (without the problem of setting it in the modern world and related controversies).

That's pretty much all of their games
I'm not sure if that's a dig at me or Paradox. Regardless it's true and I don't think anyone would claim different. No video games that cover such long time spans on such a scale are completely historically accurate or to be frank I imagine close to being completely accurate. I shouldn't need to say that though. I thought what I wrote was sufficient to a reasonable person to get the general idea that it would be different. Maybe a better way to say it would be more ahistorical but really my thread title was "free from historical restraints" and I elaborated on that later.

It'd be devoid of all meaning.

Runemaster seems to be similar to king`a bouty, while what he assumingly refered to was heroes of might and magic.

We have taken inspiration from both Kings Bounty and Heroes of Might and Magic. The battles in both those games, I would argue, are exactly the same, hex-based battlefield with tactical elements.

Right but I think the OP (and me too) want a grand strategy game not related to history. Basically EU4 (or CK2) but with races, fantasy units, etc. With nations, diplomacy, wars just like those any of those 2 games, but not tied to neither our history nor our geography.
